Default Tire size for 18" wheel

I want a set of gray 18" American Racing Torq Thrust ST wheels for my truck but I'm having a difficult time deciding on a good tire size. I don't plan on lowering my truck and I want a tire that is either equal or slightly less in diameter compared to my stock tires (255/70-16, 30.1" tall). Considering my truck will have the stock 2WD suspension height, do you think a 285/50-18 (29.2" tall) tire will look good on my truck? Right now I'm considering this tire size but does anybody have a suggestion on another tire? Any help would be appreciated.

I have seen pics of a truck with 18s at stock height and it either had 275/60/18s or 285/60/18s. I don't remember which, but will see if I can find it.

Like said a 285/60/18 would look good, but since you have 3.42s, NO! A 285/60 is approx. 31.5" and that will kill your mileage and power. I had a '99 w/ 3.42s and put a 31.5" tire on it and my mileage went from 18 down to 13.5. My '02 has 3.73s and currently I am running a 265/70/17 which is 31.6" and it slowed my performance a little and mileage was like 1 - 1.5 mpg loss.

A 285/50 will not look bad and will be better in your situation, IMO.

I have 285/60R18 BFG KDW's. They look good & ride a whole lot better than the 275/55R20 I had. But I do have 3.73's.

Thanks, but it has undergone quite a few transitions since then. Here is what it looks like now.
