Default tire question...

HI guys, I know that this isn't an LS1 powered vehicle but I thought that this was the only forum is was suitable to put it in. Its a 1999 Mountaineer with 15x ??? 8 ?? i think, it has 235/75-15's on it right now and I wanted a more 4x4, offroading stance and I do offroad in it when I go hunting. Will a 255 size tire work? I want the biggest tire I can put on it without sacrificing road manners and tire life. I was thinking the BFgoodwrich (however you spell it) All-terrain TA tire? tell me what you guys think the right size should be?? thanks
