Default Time to shine!

Since I have a beater and not driving my truck daily I find myself keeping it cleaner. Last couple washes I've noticed a lot of swirl marks in the clear and have decided to do something about it.

Bought a Porter Cable 7424 orbital buffer, assortment of pads and Sonus polish. I've never buffed a car. From what I've read you can't screw up the paint with these new units. Yeah I know, right!, but hey as long as I take it easy should be able to shine it up.

Gonna start with the tailgate. It looks the worse and heck If I screw it up a little what the hey.

Wish me luck!

Good luck man! I am sure it will come out looking much better. First time I went through and removed light swirls/scratches it was amazing the difference it made.

Good luck. I've never tried the orbital buffers before. I rely on the good old fashioned hand wax instead. Yeah, it gets repetitive after a while, but at least I know I won't burn through the clear.

Hey roger, whats the beater? Just go slow and youll be ok and be careful on the corners. you can also put tape on the edges so you dont burn through. That truck looks awesome now i can imagine what a good "buff job" will do LOL!

Try using some 3M products too. They work wonders. You can get different types of rubbing compounds and polishes to add to the luster. Or you can clay bar it and they polish. I just bought a craftman's buffer from sears, and it works great! The best pads are the foam ones.
Good luck on what ever you use.

Awww damn I gotta tell you guys what I'm driving around. Its a 1992 Toyota Tercel. At least its a 4 speed 38 MPG and cold air.

Tailgate turned out great. Very easy and I really don't think you could hurt the paint unless you tried real hard. I quit when I got out the light swirls, there are still a few deeper scratches but didn't want to push my luck. Maybe 2 hours in the tailgate. I then went to the bed sides. Only hit them with a couple passes. They turned out sweet!

I don't have any experience with other types of buffers but this one works like a charm. I highly recommend it.
