Default Theftlock?

A while back I disconnected the battery without disabling the theftlock. The reason I didn't do this is because I didn't know what it was for. Surprisingly it didn't do anything and my radio still works. Do you guys think it's safe to do this again, or do you think I should disable it first? If it's been disabled once, do you ever have to do it again? BTW, someone said after you reconnect the battery, the PCM (ECM?) has to relearn and what not but it was fine too.

I did the same thing when I bought my 02. I changed the battery out with my Optima Red-top that I had in my 99 and had no problems. But, when I took my PCM out to send it to Hypercrap, my truck wouldn't start, I had to take my truck to the dealer to reprogram the Theftlock.

I wouldn't think there would be a problem. You remember your theft lock code right? You might have to enter it again, but it shouldn't lock out your radio forever. The 03+ don't have this feature, so I don't know first hand with the trucks, but on my dad's old 95 Impala (same radio I think) we had no problems making the radio work after d/c the battery.

I never gave it a code. Like I said, I just disconnected the battery without even touching the theft lock. But it didn't do any harm to the radio. I thought the point of the theftlock was to trash the radio if the battery or something eles goes wrong so people can't sell the radio after they steal it.

Oh wait, that's only if you disconnect the main wiring from the back of the radio while the batt is connected. I think i just figured it out, lol.

You have to enable theftlock before it will do anything to the radio. If it was enabled, on powerup you would just have to enter your code. If you didn't enable it, it won't do anything.
