Default SS Wheels?

Are the SS 20" chrome wheels the same weight as the painted silver 20" SS wheel?

Are these wheels really heavy or is just that the tall tire used on a stock SS make it weigh that much more?

Thanks,
Rob

I dont know, but in general most chrome wheels would be heavier than a polished wheel. Also the tall tires that come on an ss would be heavier than a low pro tire if thats what you plan to use.

This is the exact reason I dumped my SS wheels. My good lord they weighed in at 83 lbs a piece with rubber. No the weight isn't in the tire as much as it is in the wheel. Remember, a GM wheel has to withstand towing heavy loads and getting in accidents. Cheap centerline and other aftermarket wheels don't. Trust me, the GM wheel is a much higher quality, truer wheel that most aftermarket and is designed for one thing, a silverado. unlink other junk that will fit 50 different vehicles. My vote is stay with a factory wheel if ride and comfort are your goal. GM truck wheels are both lug and hub centric to get the best center mounting point for the best balance for your truck. If you want maximum inline acceleration performance and don't care about handling, go with the smallest wheel you can fit on your truck. a Stock 16" wheel would be the best in that case.

In comparison to other 20" wheels I want to know how heavy the cast SS wheels are?

Every one says they weigh alot or is it b/c the stock tires on the SS weigh alot.

The wheels are heavy, not just the tires. As far as the earlier post calling the Centerlines junk, my wheels and tires balanced with little weight added. They dont vibrate, and have a nice ride. Unsprung weight is a huge factor on ride quality, so a lighter wheel will have a better ride. Check the wheel/tire weight thread to see what they weigh compared to similar packages.

Centerline is not junk, i had a set of centerline 20s that were on for a long time before I went to 20s. Id take another set of centerlines over the eagles I have now in a heartbeat.

Not meaning to hijack, but how do the aftermarket SS repros compare to the factory chrome ones? Does anyone know whether the aftermarkets peel, crack, or are otherwise not worth buying for safety and/or looks?

I put some ss 20's(powdercoated black) on my truck and I weighed them. The SS 20's with tires weight a total of 108lbs more than the stock 16's with tires. My buddy has some APR or ADR chrome 20's and thos bastards weigh alot more than the SS's!
