My idea is to go with the 17x7.5 factory 8 teardrop rim on my lowered sierra and paint them black like the police tahoe rims, but I have a few questions. A Pic of my truck and the rims I'm considering are shown below.

1) was there any year that this rim was offered aluminum? I thought they were all steel but my mechanic seemed to think there were some aluminum ones.

2) Does the chrome piece of the rim just pop off and have the same 8 teardrop pattern behind it?

3) I know its lowered a bunch, but I kind of still want to keep it sleeperish, thats why I want to go with black rims. But do you think itd look better with chrome or black rims?

My truck came with the same style but painted. Or without the chrome cap. As far as I know they are all steel.

 

Chrome clad ones are the same underneath. I have those myself. These wheels are heavy as hell. And the center caps are ugly/hard to keep clean. I would pass. I haven't seen an aluminum version.

 

hmm, dang. I knew theyd be a little heavier but not that heavy. Guess ill have to spend a lot more on some fancy aluminum ones...

 

I think they would look good painted the body color, but not black...

 

There were some aluminum 17" spares on Tahoes and Suburbans, that were very similar to that style. They were much lighter than those steelies. BUT, I'm pretty sure they were only 6 or 6.5" wide.
