Allrighty, here's the deal. I eventually wanna go all black (bumper, grille, mirror caps, etc.), but right now funds are a little tight and wifey's due to deliver our baby girl Sep 6th (could be any day in reality). I was dead set on doing a Sir Michael's roll pan, but wanted to wait and do it when I did the rest of the stuff. I have some other minor body work that I need to get done, and was thinking that I'd do the rollpan first, and have it sprayed and smoothed at the same time. Think it will look OK with the chrome front bumper, grille, and mirror caps, or should I just stick with the chrome rear bumper for now.

Also, if I do go for the roll pan, I plan on installing it myself, and having the body shop blend it and spray it. I've heard that the inside doesn't come finished and should be sprayed also...is this something I can do myself with a spray can prior to installation, or should I just let the bodyshop do the whole thing??

i say do it. i got my 2nd rollpan put on not too long ago. (make sure u paint the back side) don't ask how i know. The new one is painted and rubber undercoated on the backside. I can post pics of mine if u'd like. my truck is black as well with the stock grill and nothing else painted on it.

I'm not a fan of roll pans, so I say keep the chrome bumper. When you can get the other stuff done I'd swap to a W/T bumper and have that painted to match, or powdercoated

 

I don't know about the pan, maybe if you dropped the truck a little more

Plus the bumper provides a DD with so much more protection, especially in our environment.

You could always get a w/t bumper and have it colormatched. Or maybe a Yukon Denali bumper cover.

 

I went thru this too. I was wanting a rollpan, but this is my DD and I wanted some protection, plus I still use my trailer hitch and didnt want to have to spend more money on a hidden hitch. I also heard the spare tire relocator cannot be used in conjunction with the hidden hitch so I just bought a w/t bumper and had it colormatched.

I love the look of rollpans smoothed in, but it just wasnt right for me.

 

I voted for leave it alone, though I would've liked more options. I really like the look of the rollpans, but I've said it before... You'll be pretty p*ssed when you get rear ended. I lost my rollpan and tailgate to a tourist who couldn't find the brake pedal. Nice truck jb1. That's what mine will look like. I was going to have the chrome blasted off rather than buying the w/t bumper. Another option for you bud is to get a rear bumper cover and have it painted to match, though I've never seen one... but they're made by xenon.

 

The painted to match WT bumper is a good idea...that was actually my original plan (forgot to add that to the poll ). It's true that we definitely need the extra protection around here...there's alot of folks who park by "feel".

roll pan IMO. It will look fine with the chrome. Depending on what kind of condition the paint is in, I wouldn't blend it. I took my truck up to have a good many things painted on it and I specifically told them not to blend it and everything came out matching great! I also told them to not worry about installing it as I would do it myself and they had no problems with it, plus I saved a little money.

According to Sir Mikes, the inside should be painted just like the outside. I bought mine used and the previous owner had a rust prevention spray put on it, but it wasn't coated enough. I just recently pulled the pan off, cleaned it good, and put a few mores coats of the rust prevention stuff on it and it is working for now.
