Question Resetting mileage for cluster swap?

Hey guys and gals,

I upgraded to the Escalade cluster for my 01 Tahoe. I never gave it much thought until I installed the cluster that I have to reset the new cluster to reflect the correct miles for the vehicle.

Who other than the dealer can you have the correct mileage reset and what's it cost?

If I don't change the mileage and keep the escalade cluster miles which is currently at 120 miles vs. 50,000 miles does swapping the cluster effect the extended warranty?

Quite a nice thought to have a only 120+ miles on a 2001 vehicle but I don't think that will ever fly if I ever have to take it in for dealer service.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

First of all. The dealer will not do it. Some dealers may offer to send it off for you to be done, but the dealer does not have the capability to do so. And none of the dealers that I spoke with for mine, wanted to have anything to do with it. Claimed that it was illegal to tamper with the mileage. A federal offense was the wording they used. I sent both my new cluster and old one to a shop in Carrolton Texas. It was an authorized delco repair facility and cost me 45 bucks plus the shipping. There may be shops that can do this locally but all the speedometer shops that I contacted wanted anywhere from 150-300 bucks for it. Screw that.

Well I don't think the wife will like driving without a gauge cluster for a few days.

I guess if it ever needs servicing I'll just have to replace the orignial one before going to the dealer! Good thing its a simple swap to do!

I went to a local GM electronics autorized repair shop near me. Had to sign a form and lose the old cluster, cost $100, but was done in less than a half hour while I waited.

Having access to change mileage 'at will' on any vehicle using either one of those is an open invitation to unscruplious acts of fraud like those honest used car dealers!
