painting engine cover
#2
I would think not that much work at all, if you just want a simple paint job just clean the cover make sure no dust or any resedue is on and paint it with your favorite color! It's a plastic part so the paint should stick pretty well!
I remember on my old truck I used one of those markers with permanent paint on it and it came out pretty descent!

Make sure to spray on some adhesion promoter before you prime it. I started out with around an 800 grit, than sprayed it with another coat of primer, wet sanded with 1000 grit, than sprayed the color coats. BTW, if you don't wanna sand the plastic, just spray on some adhesion promoter and you can use a filler primer to get rid of the textured plastic.
