Default Paintin door handles??

For you guys that dissasembled and painted your door handles, what did you replace the steel rivet that holds the handle to the bucket?? I want to do all the prep work myself that way all the bodyman has to do is prime and paint. THANKS!!

I wouldn't call it a rivet, more of a pin. I punched mine out and then used it again. Can't say that it was easy to get out, though.

It looks flared out at one end kind of like a rivet. How did you punch it out and then reuse it??

yeah, that flare is what makes it so hard to R&R. Once the pin is in they flare it so it doesn't come out. Remember to put it back in from the top.

I believe I used a combination of a hammer, screwdriver, punch and pliers to get that thing out. Remove as much of the flare as you can (easier said than done). Then just start working it out with the punch (of appropriate size) and hammer and/or pliers. Use some lubricating fluid of your choice - it might help. It will take time and most likely will give you fustration.

Its a 1 1/2 theaded post with scew. I got it at Lowes in the bolt section. You will have to drill out the hole in the handle and the pull just a small bit for this to fit. Put some grease on the outside and some loc-tite on the screw.
