New Wing!
#1
Hey Guys,
As some of you may have noticed, My user name is 505Cubes which is a 505 Cubic inch Viper Motor... Thats right, I proudly own a Ram SRT10 with a 6 spd T56 and a few goodies. But its ok guys, ya'll dont have to run and hide. Im not here to pull buses on your trucks lol...
All kidding aside the actual reason why im here is not to cause any trouble or hate. Im here for the same reason why you guys are here which is the love for sport trucks. I am a Mechanical and Designer by trade and enjoy designing many parts on the side for friend's vehicles and my truck such as Mid Plates, 4 link plates, Belly Pans, Custom cold air intakes etc...
With that said, For a while i had been looking at wings for my truck. with only 1 type of after market wing and 2 other OEM styles (Daytona & SRT) I have decided to design my own!
"And we care because?"... Well like i said i have designed and made a few prototypes and i think they are quite unique and would like your opinion on them to see if anyone would be interested or are curious.
Now before you guys see the pics here is a little info on the design aspect. The wing on my truck is a prototype i had made where the angle of the plate is adjustable from 50 to 20 deg. The wing (as with the rest of them) is and will be made out all aluminum materials for weight purposes. The gussets are 1/4" thick and the plate is 1/8" thick. The unit is also BOLT on. I know I know some of you will kick and nod your head because you dont want to drill holes on the tailgate but i designed it for 3 reasons, 1. "Safety" I do not want the wing to fall off for any reasons. 2. Rigidity and durability, because it is bolted there are no fear that the wing could fall off if someone closes the tailgate by holding on the wing or someone tearing it off accidentally also because it is made out off metal you never have to worry about cracks or breaking. 3. Looks, with the posts being thin (not quite cus they are 1/4" thick) it gives it a clean and aggressive look BUT they are not wide enough for tape to adhere properly.
Now the "Custom" part is where if you can specify any angle you would like. Also the plate can be tweaked to a certain shape. I can also cut out the words SVT, SS, and M for mopar in the middle and insert smoked acrylic letters for an even cooler look! Take a look at some of my work and let me know what you guys think! ya or nay?

BUSES!!
No doubt it's an A for effort but it needs to be black to match the truck for sure. Just looks out of place right now. And with a tonneau cover on the truck it would look better.

I give it an A for effort, but have you thought about using an airfoil profile instead of a flat plate? Even a simple symmetric one like a NACA 0015 would be cool. If you want to get real fun do an cambered inverted wing (something simple like a NACA 2412 upside down) that is attached to a linear actuator that tilts relative to speed. It would be a similar setup to the exotics and F1 cars that adjust the wing for more downforce at speed with minimizing drag.
You can borrow one of those cheap model airplane wings for a mockup
Just a flat plate produces a hell of a lot of drag and im sure that it is stalled at 50 degrees and just makes a ton of drag.
If you are just going for looks then disregard

I think this is an awesome design.
I can jump on board with this, is there anyway you can get the dimensions for the bolts for lets say a Silverado?
Having that, you wont have to worry about drilling holes.
