From what my buddy told me, it is a simple job that requires about 2 hours at most. At the average shop rate of $65 - $70 a hour you shouldnt be paying more $130 or $140. This is what he told me. I always thought it was expensive as well. My buddy paid about $900 to lower his 01 Ram. He later admitted that he was over charged.
Most shops will give you a better deal if you buy the kit from them, hence paying more money for the kit.
I would check with some reputable shops and see what they will charge for kit and install vs. install alone. Then check around for the best price for the kit you want. McGaughy's sells the 2/3 kit with torsion bar keys and rear springs for $221.

i will do it for half of what any shop will do it for. personaly i like doing it my self to make sure it is done correct because i am very perticular.

750$ was for the kit installed correct? hell i spent 700$ for all the parts. also how do you plan on doing it. i.e. springs in the front or what?

There are 2 choices when lowering a Tahoe. Coils are only in the back. For the front you can use spindles or torsion bar keys.

I'm sure there are plenty of people around Houston that post over on GMFS that would be willing to help you. There are a few people that are going to help me with my truck if I ever decide.

what is goin to ride the best. it is a brand new tahoe and my dad is pretty concerned on the ride quality and making sure that i dont mess any thing up in the truck. what rides the best? coils or keys? what company has best reputation?
i dont think i can do leafs. i have looked and i dont remember seeing leafs in the back, isnt that only on the trucks, i thoguht that is why it was so much cheaper to lower a truck?

hahaha! well if it isnt my luck. there is a group purchase on Hotchkis goin on right now in classifieds section through tbyrne!

2249 2000+Tahoe/Yukon Sport Sway Bar Set (2wd&4wd lowered 2-3") $419.99

stupid question...this is an actual lowering kit right... not just like an upgraded suspension for a tahoe taht is already lowered?

and will 2/3 be level. i thought u needed a 2/4 to get a level ride.

that is a good deal i am hoping. if i can get that and then pay someone like 200 to install it ill be way under the 750 they want to install it all!!!

someone chime in and tell me if this is stupid or dumb.

NO bro!!! That is NOT what you want. Sway bars help with sway i.e. cornering stuff. They WILL NOT lower your truck.
OK, crash course in Tahoe lowering.
You have 2 choices.
1. Torsion bar keys in the front and springs in the back. This is the most economical, but you will lose some ride quality. This is what Im doing.
2. Spindles in the front and springs in the back. This is much more expensive but will retain almost 100% ride quality. Whitt has this on his Tahoe.
2/3 levels a Tahoe.

my dad lowered his yukon 2/3 for something like $480 installed. The shop supplied the springs in the rear, cranked down the torsion bars a little bit, and all the shocks and alignment. Rides pretty good still.
