Lowering the VHO, some general questions.
#1
I had not planned on lowering my VHO, but I saw a truck that was lowered 2-3 and it looked really good. My 99 GMC had one of the first DJM systems sold. It rode oK, and was fun to drive, but I don't want to go back there. With the 31-32" tall 20s, my truck actually sits about an inch taller than a standard Silvy. What is weird is that the truck looks like it sits about level, with maybe a 1" higher rear. The VHO has torsion suspension in front, and the rear springs need to be able to handle towing duties.
There is only about .5" left for lowering the stock keys. I don't know what that will get me at the wheel, but I don't think it will be much. I was looking around, and I think lowering keys made for Tahoes should work on my truck. I found some from Bell Tech $100, Western Chasis $100, and the infamous AIM Industries $50. I would like to get the ones from AIM because they are half price, but I know their stuff is hit or miss. I would also have to install some new bump stops as well.
For the rear, I would like to lower it 2-3". 2" is fairly simple with shackles. I also saw where the infamous AIM has a 1-3" adjustable shackle. To get 3" another way, I would have to either get hangers or lowering springs. I want to make sure I maintain my towing ability, so I don't know about lowering springs. And I know from experiance, hangers are a biotch to install.
Lastly, I never done a mild drop. Are shocks really needed? If so, which ones does everyone use with good results?
Thanks for taking the time to respond.
