My Dad has an 05 ex cab F150 FX4 with the 5.4, and man is that thing a PIG!! It has a K&N FIPK and Gibson cat-back, it's a really nice truck, leveled out the front and has AR wheels and 33" BFG all terrains on it, but it has absolutely no *****. His truck before that was an 04 2WD supercrew with the 5.4 and it was a dog too. The one before that was an 02 ex cab F150 with a 4.6, and at the time I had a 99 4.2/ 5 speed reg cab F150 and I blew him away playing around one day. Don't get me wrong, I love the looks of the F150, but it seems like no matter what set-up you get, out of the box they have no *****.
I would go with a diesel any day, but gas I would get a Chevy/GMC.

1. Ford- great interior and decent looks, but it sucks too much gas for not much power. Our previous Fords had recall rapsheets a mile long as well, though no major mechanical failures.
2. Dodge- Like the Hemi, hate the looks (06+), never owned a Chrysler product so no clue on durability.
3. Tundra- Not enough truck, bland styling. Not a fan, though I heard its pretty reliable
4. Titan- Great power, don't like the looks. Can't get a rcsb
5. Ridgeline-
6. Silverado- Good combination of power, mileage, and durability. Like the looks except the front end, waiting to see what the 07's look like. Maybe there will finally be a damn rcsb SS

Yup, I too dont like the front ends on the new chevy's, they look weak. Check out the Sierra, no BIG changes since 99, STILL SEXY!
