Hitch came loose while towing - bent frame

What a bunch of bullshit. You own like 10 GM vehicles and when something goes wrong on one of them they won't do ****. I guess I was lucky I never had to get warranty work done on my truck.

I didn't hear from GM yesterday so I tried giving the customer "service" rep a call this morning. He wasn't in so I left him a voice mail (still haven't heard back). I call again and talk to someone else over there. She checked the file and found that is says that they won't be honoring the claim and I should contact my insurance company. They now say that a hard force must have caused the frame to bend, possible a hard dip in the road. They are closing the case and will be sending out an arbitration letter.
Sounds like this may be a long process...

Hard force
Do they even stop and think before they write this crap up? I guess you're just supposed to drive on perfectly smooth roads all the time.
Why don't you send them some papers to appear in court and see if that helps.
If they can't provide any facts to back up their reason then you should win a court case.

I can't believe this is such a project. I usually never bring anything in for warranty work. The one time I do GM doesn't want to do anything about it. To me it should be very simple. I realized the hitch was coming off when I saw that the bumper was sagging (later found that this was because the frame is bent). If the hitch didn't come down I wouldn't be typing about a bent frame. I still haven't heard from the GM rep that I've been talking to. Guess I need to call him a few more times today.

I would contact an lemon law attorney, and take it from their. They say the matter is closed, dont hold your breath on them doing anything else. Can the frame be fixed,if so you could sue for the repair bill. After they tell you its your fault,no matter how many times you contact them they do nothing further.Civil action is your only recourse.Trust me been there done that, good luck.

Sh*t, I've had well more than their *rated* tongue weight on my receiver and not affected a thing. So I find it hard for you to have too much tongue load on a 9,000lb trailer. Standard school of towing is that you want roughly 10% of the trailer weight on the tongue. A 9,000lb trailer's tongue weight is 900lbs.
This is a quote right from Chevrolet.com for 3/4 Suburban's with an 8.1
With that said, even an improperly balanced 9,000lb trailer, you still have roughly 600lbs of room on the tongue weight to play with.
Throw that in their face when they try to tell you, you overloaded it.

Trailer tongue weight should be 10 to 15 percent of total loaded trailer weight (up to 1,000 lbs. on 1500 models and up to 1,500 lbs. on 2500 models)

It looks like they don't want to talk to me now. The rep's message says that he returns all calls within 24 hours. It's been 82 hours and I still haven't heard from him. He was more than helpful in the beginning but doesn't want to be the one to tell me that they aren't going to do something.
The truck can be fixed and I like it to much to get rid of it. I'll probably have the frame straightened and strengthened and see if I can get them to cover the cost. The only thing that I feel that I've accomplished was being able to say "I told you so" when I let them know what the tongue weight was.

Dude show them a pic with all the GM project cars and tell them you might switch to Ford if they don't stop treating you like this. That should scare them good.

I tried the "do you know how many GM cars I own" thing and it didn't work. This morning I called the rep that I've been talking to and left him message #8. After that I called again and spoke to a very nice woman over there. Wasn't nice enough to get the truck fixed but she was very nice to talk to. She told me that the file is closed and marked that I am unhappy. I asked what would happen if I bring the truck to a different dealer and they say that it was a factory defect that caused that problem. She said that a new file would be put together and they would have to determine why one dealer says that it wasn't a defect and the other says that it is. They final determination is that the vehicle hit a dip or hard bump in the road at high speed and that caused the frame to bend. They don't think that the hitch falling off has anything to do with it.
