It does not open and close automatically, the only time it has a clearence issue is when i try to open or close it when it is in park. So, once it's in drive it can be open and closed freely.

Yes, they do need a polish...why do you have to point out all my baby's flaws. I just haven't had the time or the energy to do it. Why does everyone have to pick on me and my truck, it's all i can do right now to keep gas in her...geez.

I got the gauges from www.procarparts.com they were only about 45 bucks. They are the reverse glow gauges, they are white during the day and they light up blue at night, and they look really good at night too.
