Spray simple green over the dry engine compartment, let sit about a minute, then rinse. That's what I do with most vehicles I detail and they come out great

I use simple G it does a good job... I usually spray it on a warm (not hot) engine and let stand for about a minute and hose it off... high pressure works really well, just be careful of the alternator and coil packs and any other electrical you have out in the open.

dont use simple green. my dad put it on his motor and it chewed up and stained the alt and various other parts under his hood. i use foaming motor cleaner (foaming carb cleaner) then a can of normal carb cleaner for the extra gunky stuff pressurized water...then dry it off by driving it around and hose it down with mcguires foaming tire shine and wipe it all down. it aughta look factory clean after that. i used that process on my new motor last night and it looks even better than my old 5.3

hhmmmm, I've never had a problem with SG... as a matter of fact I used it last night and it worked fine... I dunno.... I do want to try something new though, this does a good job but if I can find something that works better, I'm all for it.

I use a can of engine brite, powerwash it at the carwash, and then spray it with armour all after I drive it home and it is dry and hot.

I just use the tire and engine clean button at the car wash and it works pretty good.

You can use Simple green but DO NOT let it dry, it is corrosive but if you rinse it off really well it shouldn't cause any problems.
