what the hell is linear rate? ok what i got from learner about progressive rate is that under normal bumps in the road the spring is supposed to act like a stock spring and be a little soft. and when you are under hard cornering the spring gets stiffer for less lean.

You are correct with you asumption of Progressive rate. The first bit of travel will be soft untill it is compressed to a point then the spring becomes really stiff. Hence there are two different spring rates wound into the coil. A linear rate spring has a spring rate that goes up linearly as the spring is compressed where a progessive rate goes up exponentially.
You definately want a progressive rate spring on a heavy truck if you are going lower. A shorter linear rate (like a shorter stock spring) will allow you to bottom out much easier that a progressive. Unless it has a high spring rate to start with. In that case it will just give a harsh ride. Progressives give you the best of both worlds, kinda like the Edelbrock shocks. Btw.. hotchkis' are progressive.

I talked to a technical guy at hotchkis and he said their coil springs where also linear. I would like to make sure before I ordered a set.

I am not going to dissagree with the tech at Hotchkis but they are made and act just like progressives. Read the discription and look at the construction of the springs. http://www.hotchkis.net/cgi-bin/Soft...847+1063924169
