denali door handles/breaking and entering
#1
i have a black 02 denali, and unfortunately, someone broke into it through the passenger side door lock. i have spent a good amount of time taking everything apart and surveying the damage. i am quite surprised at how easy breaking into these vehicles has become. it appears that they just pushed the doorlock right into the door itself. the lock doesn't seem to be damaged, nor the clip that holds it on, but the 2 little plastic "ears" on the back side of the handle surround which hold the lock into the handle are broken. problem is, i don't really want to have to paint one of these black. Does anyone know where i can buy these pre-painted? not just black like the textured ones, but, body color smooth black like the rest of the truck. also, is anyone aware of any modifications or after-market companies making these out of metal instead of abs plastic?
It seems very hard to believe the GM is relying on these 2 plastic ears worth about 1 dollar, for the security of a 50 thousand dollar truck. these really should be stronger don't ya think?
all advice and comments welcome.

Alot of the vehicles have this design now. I work for a cable system and the company had to put rivets to secure the lock to the handle assembely because thieves were just pushing in just the lock breaking the "plastic" rivet thats there to secure it in place.

Call partszoneonline.com. I just recently order a replacement handle in black for my buddie's 04 Denali that someone tried to break into. I think it was around $28-30. They didn't get the truck but really fuked up the door skin and cracked the handle. You may want to see if the 04 handle is the same as the 02 (pretty sure it is). 04 passenger side doesn't have a key lock cylinder. It's all smooth and only the driver's side gets the lock.

Your GM dealership can get them. Just order a replacement for your truck using the VIN # and it will take you 10 min to swap out. Better yet call and get the PN from them then you can look on the net for the best price.
