candying tail lights help!!!
#1
Well, I'm going to start candying my extra set of tail lights tomorrow. I've searched and searched but I'm still not exactly sure on how to get started. First do I start wet sanding the tails with a fine grit paper like 1500 grit or something, then after its really smooth, clean it off and spray the first coat. Then after the first coat has dried to the touch do I wet sand that coat before I apply the next coat of candy red or do I just make sure the first coat is dry and then start spraying the next layer? After all of the coats have been applied, do I wet sand the last coat before I apply the clear coat. Do I need to sand between clear coat layers? After the last clear coat is dry do I need to wet sand it to make it real glossy? How do you buff them out when your done to make them look real clean looking
? Sorry for all the questions but I wasn't exactly sure.
Thanks

1500 will be fine to start with. i assume your using some spray can candy correct? if so sand it smooth with 1500 wet then spray however many coats of candy you want till you get the desired darkness. make sure you wait in between coats at least 5 minutes. dont put the candy on heavy just make sure its even. after that you can clear it. put 3-4 coats on if your going to wet sand then buff it. again wait a little bit in between coats. a good way to tell with clear is if you just spray a little on there and it just sinks into the last layer wait a little bit. but if you spray some on and it looks like the bottom coat is dry then put your next one on. youll see what im talking about. after that let them sit overnight then wetsand with like 1200, 1500, 2000, 2500. you can skip the 2000 if you want but youll be sanding more with the 2500. either way is fine. then get you some fine cut compound and buff them then get a finishing compound and polish it up. the biggest thing is take your time. good luck
