You need the crossover to cut out the higher frequencies. The crossover cuts out the voices and only outputs the low bass. Check your amp and see if it has a crossover, and set it low. If not get a crossover or a new amp with a crossover.

So let me get this striaght. You had your system and the hitting hard and all you changed was boxes and now you have less bass and higher frequencies are filtered to you subs. I don't see how higher frequencies are being filtered to your subs if you are using the same amp and I imagine the same settings. Unless you had a ported box before and now a sealed box this can be possible. You see ported boxes are tuned to a certain low frequency. This is probably why the voices was not heard in your 1st box. Furthermore, a ported box will always give you more output than a sealed with the same power. I suggest just stay with the 1st box and if you can't keep it, adjust your LP crossover to you preferences if you are going with the 2nd box. HOpe this helps.

Did the boxes you took out have anything on the inside of the box that the wire ran through? They make something you can hook up outside or inside the box to take the high's out,or they used to.

My amp has a switch on it for 3 settings... you probably pushed it to the least bass/most high pitched setting. I have accidentally hit mine before and that has always been the case. Should just be a little sliding selector on the side of the amp.
