I have noticed the paint pealing and some rust on the exposed metal underneath of my hood. Seems a bit odd for an 03 to do that. An independent body shop (would not be getting the job since I think this is a definite warranty issue) suggested that the metal around which the hood is wrapped was never sprayed with primer, hence the rust. And they further suggested that repainting it will only delay more rusting. They suggested that GM owes me a new hood.

All GM dealers in town seem to only want to scrape away the rust and then repaint, not give me a new hood (I would not mind paying a bit extra for one with functional hood scoops...and also like the look of cowl induction). I have run into a few other GM owners around town who also seem to have this problem, but of course the GM dealers all say they have never seen this before...

Is this a common problem? Was there ever a factory recall for this problem? Or does anyone have suggestions as to what other tactics I might employ against GM here?
