20" chevy declads with cnc'd caps. paint or polish?
#1
I've been a fan of declads, Chevy and GMC ever since I first saw them. finally found an affordable set of cladded chevy 20s on craigslist. just got my cnc'd centercaps back from the cnc guy. I think polished would look awesome but its either super time consuming or a little on the expensive side. Powder coating is the other option I was looking at. I wonder if it will fill in the machine lines on the wheel face? I think silver powder coating would look good. opinions and ideas welcome.

$500 for the caps. The guy said he could put a smoother finish on it but I wanted to take them home and try them on. Took him a week to cut them. I've been looking for a cheaper supplier for the material. cost was $150 for the aluminum rounds he used.

yeah its a little expensive but I bought the wheels for $400 2hrs decladding stripped them for $40 for aircraft coating remover $500 for the caps maybe $50 for the plasti dip and I have a set of custom wheels for under $1000. I'm gonna post my 20" LTZs on craigslist i see them listed for $1400 and $1500 all the time and they never stay on there for long.

to remove cladding:
step 1:
i used a hydraulic press to press the cover off,
a 2x4 and a hammer will work as well.
place 2x4 on back side of cap next to rear of spoke hit cap until
you feel it release from wheel do this on both sides of each spoke.
step 2:
I then used a plastic bondo spreader to chip off the remaining foam
just tap the end off the handle and the foam comes right off
step 3:
slather aircraft coating remover on wheel and adhesives and
clearcoat will be removed.
now you can leave it at this point and the lathe marks on the face
look good to me but i wanted to go a little further.
i'm paying someone to polish the wheels and when i get them back
i will post pics.

I am so glad I stumbled on this im in love! if these wheels didn't have such fat spokes on the clad they would look fine, but there just too flowery for my almost like the ugly ram flower wheels. the actual wheel under the clad has the perfect 5 spoke look im looking for almost like an SS wheel. kind of a cross between an SS and aluminum factory 16" 5 star. cant wait to see the finished product!!
