Well here we go again...

Currently the truck is in "roller" status... no motor, no trans, and not much of the turbo kit still in place...

Some of you know, I had problems out of the first 347 that Rex built so it was shipped back and got a new block, crank, bearings among a few other things as of right now, its wrapped up in plastic sitting in my shop paitently awaiting re-install. The only other change it may recieve is a custom cam. Its currently got a LPE GT2-3. In the transmission dept, I pulled and sold my old FLT Level 5 4L65E after 2 years of flawless service, I've been having problems finding a suitable 4L80E to go in for a reasonable price. The plan is to find a solid 4L80E and go through it with good frictions and a shift kit/converter and call it a day. I've also got a buyer for my old MP T-70 turbo, I'm currently making room for a Turbonetics MC78.

There will be cosmetic changes as well while the truck is down for the interior as well as the exterior. I'll be putting new carpet and a few other things as well as a set of Boyd Smoothie 2 18" wheels I'll be picking up from BigTex in the near future. I'll save the color the truck will be getting for later ;)

so heres a brief rundown of phase 3 for this truck (or is it 4.... maybe 5...)

2000 ECSB 2WD
Forged "Rex built" 347ci Iron block
WCCH Stg II 317 heads
ARP head studs
Crane valvetrain (springs, rockers etc)
Custom turbo cam
Probe pistons/rods
60lb injectors
KB Racing front mount kit
Turbonetics MC78 w/F1 wheel
3" DP/3" cutout/ full 4" Jegs Diesel race exhaust

Late model 4L80E
Edge 3200 converter
Tru-Trac
3.73s
Girdle cover
Yukon axles

This is going to take a couple months to complete since I'm out of town working for a few more weeks but it will happen in due time... I'll try to take more pics this go-round LOL... I know I'm guilty of not doing that.

Sounds like its going to be a long fun project!

I was thinking to my self while reading the post, all of this talk about this truck and I think that I have seen like one or two pictures of it, then I read the end and  you stated what I was thinking.

Are you up for being a personal sponsor?

2005 Silverado 04-12-2009 05:38 PM

what happened to the last 347?

Dustin

silver-mod-o 04-12-2009 05:53 PM

spun a bearing 500 miles after install. Crankshaft thrust was all over the place. Its currently got zero run time after rebuild... im crossing my fingers LOL.

Spoolin 04-12-2009 06:46 PM

Is that a ladder bar I see sticking out from underneath?

That engine bay looks familiar...

charcold-bowtie 04-12-2009 06:52 PM

IMO dont waste your time with the jegs exhaust. If your truck is like mine underneath, a straight piece of four inch pipe can EASILY get you from the DP to the rear axle. The four inch runs the same place, a little tighter on that pipe frame brace, and It doesnt have that waste of a bend that the three inch has in the picture.

this is threee inch pipe, but some reference.

silver-mod-o 04-12-2009 07:41 PM

The only reason for the jegs exhaust system is I'm getting it cheap. Its second hand but never been installed.

Sir French Fry... No ladder bars, yet... Those are custom long bars I had built at an off road shop locally. They're beefy  frame notching and a ladder bar setup is definitely on the future... I doubt the leafs are gonna like leaving off a 2 step and transbrake :-) the 10B probably won't either once I hang those Hoosiers on the end of it.

Anybody have any leads on a solid 80E?

1slow01Z71 04-13-2009 11:21 PM

Got mine from Mater, may try him.

silver-mod-o 04-14-2009 04:34 PM

I was really looking for something in the Southeast, Tx, South LA area... Isn't he up in PA?

I was just informed today that my NSHP fan harness is complete... Should work much better than what I built LOL

silver-mod-o 04-14-2009 05:05 PM

Still trying to decide for 10000% which cam or even if this one really needs to be changed... I've got a custom grind picked out and working on the lobes... Just debating if another $400 is needed lol

Well you said you needed one, you may have to expand your search to get one hard head.:jest:

I think I paid 700 to my door for a 4wd one, with dust plate, converter, flexplate and spacer, with 50K on it.

silver-mod-o 04-15-2009 12:29 AM

LOL, I've got some leads... Just didn't know if anyone knew of anything off hand. There's a couple in LA that I know of for a reasonable deal.

GMCtrk 04-15-2009 12:39 AM

Buy it complete and sell off the stuff you dont need to recoup some cost. I sold the 80e flexplate for $50, so I'm now 600 bones deep in the 80e. Still trying to sell the 80e TC.

silver-mod-o 04-15-2009 02:20 AM

I was actually considering starting with a stock converter and seeing where its deficiencies are, and going from there with as much info as possible towards getting an aftermarket converter.... I just know I'm going to hate the loss of throttle response from that heavy ass thing if I decide to go that route.

GMCtrk 04-15-2009 02:23 AM

I'll sell you the one I got for cheap. It's out of an 05 with 30k

silver-mod-o 04-15-2009 03:09 AM

If I don't get one with the trans I get then ill more than likely take you up on it.

275/60-17 Falkens...

Thanks for the compliment!!! its actually way rougher than normal in that pic LOL... I'll post pics when I get the new wheels/tires on.

18x9 255/55-18 ? up front
18x10 305/45-18 out back :) I'm considering trying out that new M/T street radial for my street tires...

texasbullseye89 04-15-2009 08:56 AM

does that mean i can have the slicks? lol

I couldnt get the 4 inch to fit through the hoop....

silver-mod-o 04-15-2009 06:41 PM

you've got a hell of a lot more ground clearence than me Dusty LOL... running it like that wouldnt work for me... by the time I bought pipe, and a muffler, and misc stuff I'd have more in a fabbed up 4" system than I'm giving for this Jegs kit...

and NO, you can have the slicks LOL, I'll be needing those.

heres how the truck sits normally... no motor/trans unloads the frontend a ton haha

sorry for the cell phone pic, its old.

The tab on the back is modified for the 80e but the rest is stock 2001 trans crossmember. Yours is totally different then mine, and looks like the trans crossmember like on my dmax. Went all the way outside and took a pic just so you could see what Im talking about ;)
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...1/IMG_1916.jpg
Very similar in how they attach to the frame...

Wilde Racing 04-15-2009 09:40 PM

Mine is the factory cross member that came with the truck... They went to the "other" style some time in 2000 I think....

Guess the 2000 I did work on was a "late" model:hmmm:

silver-mod-o 04-17-2009 09:23 PM

Ill be extending my crossmember much like Dusty's

And Tex, NO, YOU CAN NOT HAVE THEM :jest:

-I'll be picking up more pars this weekend. Wheels, turbo, misc stuff, exhaust, etc...

Trans and girdle cover won't be far behind hopefully.

nonnieselman 04-17-2009 10:40 PM

about time!!!!

silver-mod-o 04-18-2009 11:38 PM

I guess this time around, I'm gonna run this 10B till it pukes.

I've had aftermarket axles in a rear already, considering them for this one.... Girdle cover, tru-trac, welded and gusseted tubes... And possibly axles?
