Default Steve-o-08's Silverado Build Thread, Take Three.

I know it's been a while since I've posted on here. Been checking out some other builds and it's making me want to get caught up.

So back in April I got a call from a friend of mine asking me if I wanted to participate in Truckin' Magazine's Throwdown. i've actually wanted to get into the event for the last two years but the truck was alway down when it came around.

After I said yes I realized there were a few more mods left to be done before, so upgrading brakes front and rear and wheels and tires got pushed to the front of my to-do list.

I upgraded the Front Calipers and rotors to the 05+ larger ones, EBC Green Stuff Pads and EBC Slotted rotors as well as Russell Performance Braided Stainless brake lines. Also painted the Calipers and Brackets to match the Chevrolet Orange on the engine. I used VHT True Orange Caliper paint which matches pretty well.

And the rears:

The truck stops much better now.

I wanted to get a stickier tire on next that would help with more than just straight line. So I decided to go with Nitto NT-05's. The new tires meant new wheels that had to be 18's so I jumped on Craigslist and found a set of Nissan Titan 5 spokes and got them mounted up.

And here's some pics and a crappy cell video from the event:

I had a blast. A lot of fun pushing the truck to do more than I had ever done with it.

Well after beating on the truck around the autocross course it be came pretty apparent that some more suspension mods may be in order. Got the truck on the scales at the end of last week. Might be upgrading to Ridetech Coil-Overs soon, We'll see.

Truck looks awesome. Great work.

I've really been thinking about trying to the greenstuff pads up front, but there are some pretty subpar reviews online. In the past I had used them on the rears and thought they made a good difference.

Like the pads so far. They are definitely dusty, but that's the nature of the beast. The pads along with the stainless lines make a pretty big difference in pedal feel and stopping distance.

Little update: Decided I wanted to ditch the factory column shifter in favor of a floor mounted one. Went with a B&M Pro Ratchet. I like the placement, but I'm going to be swapping the **** for something a little taller. Now planning out seats and harnesses. Trying to get the truck ready for the Hotchkis Autocross in September.

I had a set of tilt back Corbeau seats at the shop waiting to go in my boss' Jeep so I decided to try see what they'd look like in the truck. They look tiny compared to the factory seats. I'm not sure if I would do a fixed back or a reclining seat. Just have to do some measuring and see what I'll have to do for brackets.

I'm looking at doing a seat/harness setup similar to this:

Just got the new Manual trans steering column trim piece delivered this morning. Decided to get it swapped in before it got up to the 108* that was forecasted for today.

A little update. Just got my seats on Thursday. Decided on a pair of Corbeau FX1's. Much lighter than the factory seats. Going to weigh the factory ones to get a comparison just because.

I have to figure out mounting them. Pulled the brackets off the stock seats. I'm going to be using the factory sliders and side mount brackets. Once the seats are mounted, a harness bar is next. Not going to do a full cage. Probably just a harness bar similar to this:

Interested to see how you mount the new seats to the original tracks.
