1 3/4 lexan windows, double 3/4 MDF plus heavy fiberglass, pressure latches on the doors(6 or 7 each I think), and obviously a remote head unit. I forget how many batteries but a quick burp dropped them about 2 volts if I remember correctly. I don't remember what amps.
You and car audio. I can see that thread already. 1980's era house speakers in the bed of the truck. Held in with drywall putty and deck screws.

To the OP, good luck on the project. I'm in the never seen a 4.8 in a Tahoe club too. Good to see you boosting it should make for a fun driver. And a helluva sleeper.

I made some progress this weekend.. I was working alone for the most part but had a friend of mine come over to help get the 80 bolted up. For the most part it went smooth. The top bolt on the trans was a bitch, but other than that it came right out. After getting the 80 on the dowell pins it bolted right up, the top bolt also seemed a lot easier to get to for some reason.... I also ended up using a regular style bolt instead of the bolt/stud type that was originally in there so that I could use a short socket with a long *** extension. The stock dip stick tube worked perfect for the 80.... literally bent the very end a little bit and it slid right in.

I still need to mount my trans cooler, run the lines, put the slip yoke on the driveshaft, and do the wiring mods.

The bracket that was on the 60 that held the shifter linkage is different than the one that was on the 80, but the 60 one will not bolt to the 80 so I guess I've got to figure out something there. I have some pictures but they aren't worth posting... I suck at stopping everything and taking pics.

holley- What gears do you have in that thing? I bet some 4.10's would have got those big wheels moving with all of your heavy stereo equipment. I would run at least 3.73's now since you dropped some weight. Do you know the exhaust A/R on the turbo and how does it spool? Looks good

Still have the OEM gears in it, it spools up pretty quick, and starts building boost around 3k.... which is why I went with a 3600 stall. Not sure on the exhaust housing. Thanks for the compliments

-----------------

Made some progress.... lost someone really close to me a few days ago so I haven't really touched it until this afternoon.

Got the trans cooler mounted, PNRD switch installed with the shifter linkage... started in moving wires on the main plug for the trans but forgot which wires to move... which is why I'm here.

Still have to make the crossmember, install new yoke on shaft, get my PCM back.

This is all the fluid that I could get out of the old 4l60;

Still had the 60 in after I removed everything from it... about to detatch it from the bellhousing.. shows what little room I have to work with. Wish I had a car lift.

80 slid in easy as pie;

Perfect clearance

Got the -6 fittings in

Deep pan

Tranny cooler where the old plastic guard used to be.... after I saw that procharger kits mount the intercooler here I figured it would be a good place for it.

Then I broke a damn fitting

So I only got one line ran

Damn 10 dollar fittings.

Going smoothly so far.... it surprised me that all the bracketry and everything works perfect for the 80 without changing a thing... even used the stock dip stick tube.

Coming along nicely. Your comment about wanting a car lift comes to mind every time I crawl under my truck. I would kill for a shop with a lift in it.

Looks good so far!

I am spoiled. The company I work for allows me 24 hour access to the shop with both a drive on and two differant 2 post lifts. I don't know what I would do if I had to work on the ground again. I think I might quit working on my own stuff!

I'll upload pictures in a bit... but wanted to update and let everyone know I got the 80 in and working. I have 2 words.... holy ****. Anyone contemplating an 80 swap, DO IT NOW. The transmission shifts better than my 60 did when the truck had 60 miles on it. The converter is retarted loose though.... I've never driven anything with a high stall and I don't know if I'll keep this one as loose as it is.

I only went for a quick drive since I was using the bolt on yoke as a slip yoke (it was dripping fluid out without the bolt). I'm pretty sure that I brake stalled around 4000 RPM. At WOT all of first gear is cut down by traction control, shift to second and i'm moving the hell outta dodge. I can brake stall 6 pounds of boost instantly... over all it's awesome. Like I said it was a short trip due to the slip yoke I'll get the proper yoke tomorrow.

I only have a few complaints...
1. The trans reached 200 degrees pretty quick even with a 40k cooler. (I drove with the converter locked for about 10 seconds throughout the whole drive)
2. First gear is stupid tall... used to shift into second at 45 ish now it's well over 60.
3. My shifter linkage isn't adjusted properly... I looked for a way to adjust it but couldn't find anything.... hope to get that fixed soon.
4. I foresee about 5 mpg in my near future. Got 11 ish with the 60 in it, with this stall ill be lucky to get 5 unless im driving down the interstate without stopping.

If I had the right slip yoke I'd still be driving right now.

Time to get the meth injection on and put a TU1 cam in.

I want to emphasize my dislike for the converter during normal driving though.... takes some rpms to even move from a dead stop, hopefully I can get used to it.
