shakenfake's Sierra SLT LBZ thread (BORING)
As most of y'all know I brought home an LBZ last night. High mileage but damn clean. This is hopefully my last truck. I don't really like anything newer than 2007 except for K2XXs and by the time I can really afford to toy with those I'm sure all the electronics on them with be defunct and hard to come by. I'm a tech hater sorry.

That's probably all I plan on doing. Just want to get a "pro-OEM" look lol |
Burnouts?
|
How many miles? What'd you pay?
Why do you need it? Just curious. |
@dantheman1540 See thread title for BORING adjective
@wretched73 1. A lot 2. A lot, probably a little too much but comparables told me it wasn't so bad. 3. I wanted one. Really though I needed a truck for truck stuff again. The extended cab has slowly spiraled away in terms of how much work I have done to it. I will probably end up towing a boat by next year and have 4 other vehicles that I will start towing most likely, Grand Prix, BMW, extended cab, Impala. I say that to somewhat justify my purchase but really I just wanted a diesel. I am doing more stuff out in the country on the weekends as well so needed 4x4. Since the extended cab took a shit on me 3 or 4 weeks ago I started looking around. Wanted to get into a diesel because I fell in love with the platform, not from a truck though actually from regular passenger cars. Wanted a crew cab for the space. Probably didn't need it but it's what I wanted. I am sure I will get some looks and a lot of "you don't need it" but meh I like it. I don't really need anything I have, just enjoy it. |
I don't blame you one bit.
I love my LLY Just wish it had the LBZ... LOL |
"Need" is far too objective. You're a big boy, you get what you want. I was really just curious what sparked the need for one.
If you just wanted one, that's fine too. I have too many things that I just wanted so now I have them.... For better or for worse. |
Haha
What really sparked the need was my extended cab taking a shit, the Impala is in pieces, BMW doesn't drive and the Grand Prix doesn't run. My want list was an LBZ with the highest trim package. 4x4 was optional but somewhat on it. I really wanted graphite interior but the tan on black has grown on me already and it looks kickass in my opinion. |
Can't wait for you to take this truck apart and buy something else
|
No this will stay stock or minimal mods. Diesels cost too much to fart around with imo.
|
Sell the ext cab and pour the money into this truck
|
where are the pics?
Glad to see someone finally realized real trucks have front diffs  |
Not ever selling the ext cab. Turboing maybe
@arthursc2 Are you unable to see the pics I posted on the first post? I can add them a different way if I need to. |

They work on the repost!
PYO's are the SHIT!! congrats :D |
I’m incredibly jealous. I want another diesel so bad but I have so little justification for one. Looks super clean.
|
It has a few small scratches and nicks but other wise perfect body. I think most of it will polish and buff out quite nicely whenever I can pull it in the shop during the fall or winter.
The interior is fantastic, looks brand new minus all the lights burnt out in the climate control and what not. I plan on getting everything converted to red anyways, or I may keep it stock I'm not sure yet. |
Post 1 pics work on mobile FYI
|
Someone painted the frame I am guessing, everywhere looks pretty good though imo
Washing it tonight and taking off the vent visors and bug shield so hopefully will have some photos. I have to remind myself that this is my work truck and the paint/small scratches do not matter lol I'm OCD like that https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.per...27f02c0c81.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.per...066fde48f1.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.per...08d8e748e6.jpg |

Thats a common used car dealer move to make everything look good...
|
I don't think it was them, none of their other trucks had been sprayed. (I did poke around some others lol)

Whatever grandpa owned this thing drove through tar or some shit. The bottom of each fender is covered in it.
Tonight hopefully I can pull the visors off, clean my seats and apply some trim restorer. |
Great find, I love that truck, looks nice and well cared for.
|
Hurry up and get the molding, badges, flares, and steps off

I will post some pics of it but I do believe that it is tar or something similar. You can really see it good on the bumper.
I am really too short to get in without a handle or the steps but they are coming off don't worry. 5'9" manlet life  @wretched73 I was thinking keep the flares and get them color matched. Makes it look more like a three quarter ton I am not sure, I'll take em off and we will see how I like it. |
lmao 5'9" is average American man size
manlet :jest: |

If you have that much tar I'd go with the Tarminator. It's $15 a can but the 3 can option is $26 if you think you'll need more. If you're spending money for paint & labor it would be a great time to color match the handles and mirrors when the flares are being shot.
All you need is a pair of 1970's platform shoes shorty :D Attachment 152966 |
Excellent choice. They were going for crazy money (and still may be) when I bought my Denali HD a little over a year ago. However I was looking at 75k miles an under which absolutely had bearing on price.
|
I only like flares if the tires have a bit of poke, otherwise they just hang awkwardly far out IMO
And I'd with Red, I prefer painted handles over the esky chrome mix, but either is better than stock plastic |
I was kind of leaning towards fully painted but I figured the esky handles might give a bit of pop on the side of the truck. Full painted mirrors though for sure. I know someone at the dealership who will do paint work on the side so I might be able to slide in there.
I may just take them off for now then. LML wheels, or any wheel/tire combo kinda want some polished PYOs, are probably going to be pretty far in the future. |

Makes it look more like a three quarter ton I am not sure, I'll take em off and we will see how I like it. Painted outer door handles are nice too! FYI, the Chrome exterior pull handles on the escalades get hot in the Sun... just be aware of that... My truck had texture plastic with a chrome pull handle as part of the factory chrome package. I replaced with paint matched when I got side swiped. They also did the mirror caps and tail gate handle with bezel for me as well. I took all new OEM parts down while it was being painted. The mirrors were used and I asked them to mask off and do the caps. But I think the pulled the caps off. On my LLY I have some paint matched handles from a Suburban but the Color is slightly different. I would like to get them paint matched to the truck. I also had the DL3's from the Denali but you could tell the color shade on the caps was different. At least I could... On the tow mirrors I just have regular textured caps. I was thinking I might do color matched caps in the future. |
I was thinking possibly doing the whole mirror color matched depending on what the guy wants to do, not sure just yet. The only thing missing on these mirrors is a puddle light. I really like the puddle lights I retrofitted on the Silverado. I was thinking about ordering a set from eBay but they are quite expensive!
Does anyone know the SEM paint for the tan? I would like to hit the glovebox and the top of the dash with a quick spray to fill in some of the chipped paint. Not really a necessity so if yall don't think it will come out very nice I won't. Was just gonna spray part of it. Changing the oil this weekend as well. |

I hate the regular plain texture ones. Who ever does it, hopefully will prime them to smooth them out like the factory painted ones.
. I wet sanded mine in the kitchen sink with #400 grit. Be sure to mask off the mirror glass because it's very easy to scratch the mirror's coating even with the fine grit paper. Shot it in a red oxide two part epoxy primer, wet sanded with #800 then shot the base/clear. 10 years of bugs beating on them the finish is holding up well.
