Default Project Throwdown LS OBS

I am making this thread for my brothers 92 GMC Sierra. this will be a long slow build but I will update as it comes along.
He is building it to compete in Throwdown someday, it is just a toy but he wants it to be turn key, handle like a sports car and beat sport cars around town.
it was a basic 350, 700r4, 10 bolt truck that had 350k on the clock and was still running perfect but noticed one day that the crank had ALOT of front to back play.

here is what it looked like for most of its life, starting to rust

he got the bug to lower it so he static dropped it 3/4

drove it around like that for awhile until he was at the bar one night and some punks decided they wanted to key a bunch of vehicle in the parking lot.
so it was time to address the body, don't have any pics of it with the body so you will see what it looks like in the next pics
that's when it all started.
350 came out and in went a 383 stroker that I had been running in my 84 grand prix, hydrolic roller cam, vortec heads with 2.02 1.60 valves, ported and polished, holley carb etc... should have been right around 400hp at the crank. after a summer of beating on it this is what happened

while he was on the side of the road with a blown motor he was literally on the phone with our engine builder and ordering up a big block.

In went a flat tapped 454ci big block, things went bad at that point. we had a great break in with great oil pressure until the motor decided it wanted to squeal and eat up a bunch of lobes. it was determined by comp that it was a defective cam or lifters.
wasn't a bad thing cause I kept telling him to go hydrolic roller and he never listened and this was his chance to upgrade so in went a hydrolic roller. motor put down 397rwhp or something like that with a TH350 trans.
truck was a blast to drive and sounded mean.

He had a lot of fun with the motor but it was house time so that meant motor had to go so truck sat for a little while.
I had a 461ci big block that I had built for my grand prix but bought my 05 sierra and got wrapped up in my truck and forgot about the car so the motor was just sitting around, told my brother he could toss it in his truck if he wanted so in it went.
AFR 345 heads, eagle forged crank, eagle forged H beam rods, Speed Pro forged pistons, comp solid roller 254 260, 660 666, 110 cam, etc....we changed the head gaskets so he could run pump gas. motor was built for a big shot of spray but it made 470rwhp NA with a very safe street tune and a tiny 825 mighty demon carb. He was also running my ATI TH400 with all the bells and whistles including trans brake, ATI 4000 stall.
here is a pic with the Vortec YSI blower I had for it but ended up selling

At that point he realized the rear end wasn't going to handle the new found power so he ordered up a Moser 9", 33 spline axles, 4.10s with a spool etc...used rear calipers from a 96 Impala ss to run disks.

he had the diff narrowed to run some bigger meats so he got some mickey Thompson 325 drag radials with some 10" wide rims.
so with all that he figured he would ditch the leafs and link it

the truck was a complete blast but with the power and being able to do rolling burnouts going 100km/h the rear tires only lasted a couple rides each which was about 2 weeks and his distributor or something went on it so the truck was parked and it sat for awhile and I was wanting to sell the motor to fund my big truck so motor came out and sat motor less for a long time.
but in the mean time he decided he wanted to run air ride so body was taken off, he boxed the entire frame and welded up every hole, put bags all the way around and was laying frame

He wasn't sure on what to do motor wise until one day a buddy had a 5.3 forsale with harness and computer so he scooped it up. I don't know how many hours he has into the wiring but it is a lot that's forsure.
he got schoenfeld (sp) headers, dirty dingo motor mounts, TH400 trans.
motor will be gone through, custom cam and do heads, intake when funds allow and it will be hit with some giggle gas. if a 6L or 6.2 pops up he will swap to that but for now the 5.3 will be going in.
since the truck lost a lot of power and weight he decided to scrap the bag setup and make the truck handle so he swapped to coils all around but is still running the tubular upper and lower control arms up front

We took the entire truck apart today so he could finish up some welding on the frame and then it will be going off to powder coat.
the plans are to have these rims and tires for the track and then a set of 18"s or 20"s for the road coarse.
I have left out ALOT of things done to this truck and don't know all the answers but if you have any questions I can ask my brother, he has done all the work on the truck so he will know.
I will update as things come along

so far he has just cut up the floor and took the tubs out, he is not sure yet on what he is gonna do to finish the box.
he has talked about getting a box and cutting out the floor and only notching what he has to and stretch the tubs. finish it off nice.
he has a hitch at the back so he can still tow with it, the rear notch has 3 lazer cut pieces on each side so it is nice and strong, I don't remember how thick the pieces are
I am not very good at build threads so sorry if stuff doesn't make sense, its a lot of typing and stuff. lol

got some updates on the truck.
its coming along pretty good right now, got the frame and suspension back from coating. the frame is really not what he wanted but its really hard to tell from a little splotch. he wanted the frame, diff darker.
He did a compression test on the 5.3 he bought and turns out one cylinder is really low so the nice brother I am I am gonna put my LQ4 in my truck soon and give him my L33 shortblock to throw in his truck. he ended up tracking down my old ATI TH400 rated to 1500 hp with a tbrake and scooped it up for a great deal. it was never actually used since it came out of his truck.
fuel lines are all ran, brakes are working again and box will be going back on today. he put his 5.3 in for now to run all the wires and get everything ready for my motor.
his plans for the L33 are cam it now with a little head work on his stock heads and spray it until he finds a great deal on a TVS 1900 or 2300

Clearly till the day your brother dies or sells the truck it will never be done.
