Project excesss has begun!

I figured I'd start posting the progress of my project for those of you guys, like myself, that enjoy watching/learning as a build comes together.
**(I will add updates to the original post to keep it all together for people who view this post months down the road. Timeline is continued on page 4)**

Just changed pistons and rods for more boost/power. JE pistons and eagle H beam rods. Just waiting to do some logging and send it over to justin to finalize my tune.(nov 18, 2010)

Also I don't know if I said this or not but it has a brand new 4L80E tranny in it. I got it from the factory brand new in the box and its got a transgo shift kit. It has around 2000 miles on it now. Also it does not have them ugly pips coming out the back any more, it has a side exhaust behind the right rear tire(magnaflow) I will get some pics up.(nov 19, 2010)

Game plan is 6.0 liter swap with 4l80 in a RCSB Silverado. First build a strong foundation then install the single turbo.

Heres the progress so far:

rest of the pics of the truck stock: http://s80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...ect%20excesss/

March 30, 2009: Ordered the following parts: Belltech 2/3 drop kit (front:spindles, rear: shackles/hangers, performance shocks) , Centerline Rapid wheels 20x8.5, Nitto NT555R 275/40/20 rears and NT 555 255/45/20 fronts

April 2, 2009: Complete 6.0 liter engine ordered (donor: 2004 silverado 2500 HD 36k miles)

April 8, 2009: Engine arrived in crate. Hoping the insides are all intact.
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...s/IMG_0300.jpg

April 9, 2009: Install begins. Tranny and 5.3L taken out. 6 liter was cleaned and ready for a few new pieces.

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...s/P1010634.jpg

April 10, 2009: Long night, some goodies installed... Comp cam (214/220 duration 600/579 lift 117 lsa), patriot extreme springs, ARP head studs and connecting rod bolts. Got stuck when putting motor back together and head bolts didn't fit. Come to find out the motor was built in 2003 even though it was a 2004 truck. Went to Thunder Racing the next morning and got ARP head studs for a 2003 instead.

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...s/P1010642.jpg

April 14, 2009: Discovered my old 4l80 from project heavy chevy isnt going to work with this setup. Going to have to get a new input shaft and see if they make a bracket for the electronics. 6 liter installed with the stock 4l60 for now. Runs strong. Not mashing it too much until tank full of regular fuel is out (tuned for premium).

I'd like to put a shout out for Blanchard performance engineering for letting me use his shop and work side by side with him allowing me to learn so much. Also for answering all of my dam questions. If you like a meticulous honest guy who knows his shit he's your guy. There's not many mechanics still around like him (at least in my area that is).

April 16, 2009: Tires arrived! Still waiting for Centerline to make my wheels and ship em. I can't wait to get rid of these ugly ass stock wheels.
https://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j...s/P1010655.jpg
https://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j...s/P1010657.jpg

April 17, 2009: License plate put on truck ;-)
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...s/P1010674.jpg

April 22 & 23, 2009: Lowering kit and wheels arrived

April 24, 2009: Wheels and tires installed, (ready for it to be lowered because stock height dwarfed the 20's)
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...s/P1010677.jpg

April 28, 2009: Belltech shackles, hangers, spindles, and performance shocks installed, WOW lowering the truck exceeded my expectation on looks and handling, dam the truck handles sooo well on a curvy road now. I can just imagine what the Hotchkiss sway bars will do later on down the road
**More pics to come of how the truck looks lowered, finished up the install at night so too dark for pics.
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...s/P1010679.jpg

April 29, 2009: When I got the truck I decided I didn't want the side moldings on the truck anymore. This might sound funny but I've never pulled side moldings pulled off and didn't know what the hell to expect when doing so; adhesive underneath/ pain mismatch/ etc. Well today I said screw it and I pulled them off. 3m wheeled that adhesive off and it came out great!

I'm posting a couple pics of the truck lowered with the wheels because it was requested but don't look at the paint. I'm ashamed I havent waxed the truck yet because it REALLY needs it. Just haven't found the time.

April 30, 2009: Contacted Livernois..... I bought the last turbo kit they had in stock (67mm)!!!

*** Timeline continued on page 4 ***

excesss 04-14-2009 11:59 PM

Still waiting for the wheels and lowering kit to arrive to put those on. Oh the stock 5.3L with 42k miles is for sale. The 4L60 will also be for sale soon for anyone who is interested. Once that and my 92 chevy sell the turbos will be going in.

The 92 was painted storm grey 1000 miles ago (Dupont paint). Third break light filled, antenna shaved, tailgate handle relocated, brand new bed rug, and a goodmark cowl hood. It has a eaton posi unit with 373 gears in the rear end. All it needs is a motor and tranny and its good to go. I'm selling it for $3000 if anyone knows someone looking for a truck like this send them my way.

GMCtrk 04-15-2009 12:01 AM

how'd you clean that engine? Looking back I wish I cleaned my engine before the swap. Looks like dirty poo.

excesss 04-15-2009 12:10 AM

I've come to learn break cleaner and those blue shop paper towels work wonders on cleaning anything. It sprays pretty dam hard for being in a can too. You could probably do a pretty good job with them even though your engine is installed.

gmc6.0 04-15-2009 12:10 AM

what kind of turbo u goin to setup

GMCtrk 04-15-2009 12:11 AM

I'm thinking a trick performance kit unless I learn anything different before I order the kit. I like the Livernois kit as well but I think they are stopping production on their kit.

Yea you right, it cleans good too. They are the stock heads on the lq4. That pic is with the patriot extreme springs installed.

GMCtrk 04-15-2009 12:32 AM

my bad...it looks like a PRC engraving in this pic

https://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j...s/P1010642.jpg

excesss 04-15-2009 12:35 AM

Np np. I like that the engine cover is the same as the 5.3. If anyone asks around here.... it's just a 5.3

GMCtrk 04-15-2009 12:38 AM

Mine's just a 4.8. That's what it says on the sticker in the engine bay.

excesss 04-16-2009 07:57 PM

Whew man... yea you right. The turbo is looking like it is going further and further away with all the "unexpected costs" I've encountered. Fortunately as long as my 92 chevy and my stock 5.3 sells I'll still be on track financially to buy the best part of this build.

If they don't sell... any of you need your trucks detailed cuz I'm dead set on getting that kit :rotflmao:

Spoolin 04-17-2009 03:58 AM

Wow, this progressed really fast! Congrats and glad that silvy got a new lease on life!! :judge:

How much are you looking to get with the turbo?

excesss 04-18-2009 12:26 PM

My ultimate goal is low 11's so we'll see what it takes to get there. I'm shooting for 650ish hp at the crank.

excesss 04-28-2009 11:46 PM

***Update timeline***

GMCtrk 04-29-2009 01:12 AM

what wheels are those?

excesss 04-29-2009 01:16 AM

Centerline Rapids. The pictures really don't do them justice. I will take better pictures tomorrow.

Spoolin 04-29-2009 01:27 AM

charcold-bowtie 04-29-2009 02:06 AM

What part of the wheel was color matched? That doesn't sound like a bad idea.

charcold-bowtie 04-29-2009 02:35 PM

I couldnt find the dam pic last night. IT was on a red SS with some sort of white pinstripe. Really nice truck. 22 inchers tho. I will try to find it again.....

Well im a liar. lol I guess it was jsut a nice truck. Must have been around the time I wanted 22's.

rims

excesss 05-01-2009 06:57 PM

Those 22's do look nice. I just hated to add any more weight but dam I think its almost worth it for the looks.

budhayes3 05-01-2009 09:19 PM

PM me the price on that 5.3 if it's not been sold already, might be interested. I stay in LaPlace.

Thats the part that makes me sad about those wheels. I love the way they look but the widest Centerline makes in this wheel is 8.5 inches wide. That forced me to go with the 275/40/20 drag radials.

2 reasons.
1, I'm still trying to decide what I want to do and i can learn almost anything.

2. You got that shit done QUICK and it looks great.

Street pharmacist was a nice touch.

Ha ha thanks man. If there was more money in having a performance shop around here thats what I would love to do. It's always been a passion of mine but the only way I live it is through my vehicles.

mike06tork 05-03-2009 12:51 AM

so the wheels are 8.5'' wide. its cause i like the way they look i have sum 20 x 8.5 intros twisted vistas with the 255/35/20 but the tires look to small. i want sum like yours they look geat.

LA CHARANGA 05-03-2009 12:57 AM

wow! gl on the rest of ur project bro

Yea their 8.5's, I think the offset helps make them look wide enough. I really have to say centerline did a dam good job recommending the right offset on the wheel. We will just have to see how bad the 275's are going to spin with the turbo installed. Really wish I had enough wheel to fit a 315.

May 12, 2009: I think this was the happiest I've ever been to see two cardboard boxes ;-)

Quick pic of the goods:
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...s/P1010714.jpg
Install begins when I save up a little more cash for the gauges, fuel pump, etc...

July 10, 2009: Livernois Kit finally installed along with gauges, fuel pump, and BOV! It was just as sweet of a ride as I had imagined! The 42 lb injectors that came with the kit arent near enough so I have some 60 lbs on order. Can only do about half throttle pulls for now but even so this sucker pulls!

Camera battery died so I snapped a few with my phone:

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...s/IMG_0353.jpg
Louisiana heat is a bitch so we wrapped everything even near the turbo until I order my turbo blanket.
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...s/IMG_0354.jpg
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...s/IMG_0349.jpg

September 22, 2009: Got a turbo blanket to help with the underhood heat. Hoping it doesnt have a negative impact on my IAT's but next time I go for a tune I'll just have to see.
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...s/IMG_0442.jpg

October 27, 2009: I finally got the money together to order my 4L80E and HD2 shift kit. I ended up finding a new GM factory replacement tranny for a really good deal. Hopefully it will arrive in the next few days so I can finally see what this babys got.
