Default My 1999 OBS C1500 LQ9 6.0 LS Swap

Here's the truck, 1999 Silverado C1500 which had about 50K on it when I got it. It had a 5.7L Vortec w/4L60E. The truck treated me well until it rolled 150,000 miles and I discovered oil was getting into the coolant. It had either a blown head gasket or a cracked head, not sure. Decided to go ahead and pull it and do the LS swap.

The swap is completely finished as of now. Just wanted to share some progress pics I took along the way and some of the finished product.

Originally an LY6 and not sure what happened to it, I'm thinking VVT failed because all of the original piston tops were eyebrowed from the valves hitting them.

Took it to the machine shop and had it hot tanked and new cam bearings installed. Then put new LS2 flat tops and a 24X crank next.

I used the schoenfeld LS swap headers for 88-98 trucks. 1 3/4" primaries.

TBSS Intake with LS2 Injectors and a Nick Williams 92mm throttle body. That TB is nice!

I had to modify the front core support bracket/hood hinge mount to fit a Tru-Cool 40K Transmission cooler.

I used a 34" radiator with the 05+ truck fans so I fabbed up a radiator/E-fan mounting bracket to make it look clean!

I did all of the exhaust myself. I bought a builder kit with a few 90 and 45 degree mandrel bends. Its dual 3" with an H-pipe with 14x4x9 Magnaflow C/O mufflers and QTP cutouts. Running turndowns for now.

Here is the finished product! I used a wiring harness from Techrods and it worked flawlessly. The hardest part of the entire build was getting all of the gauges to work and figuring out what I did and didn't need. I had a good friend help me with this. I wanted to make sure it looked neat and nearly factory with no loose wires. Still have a few little things I want to do but its basically done. I'm happy with the way it came out and the truck is a blast to drive!
