I could really use some more power couldn't we all! These 5.3L are very long lasting and dependable and it WILL be a long time before my engine has any trouble. If I was gonna do a swap it would be the LS3 crate motor.

So, the plan is to have about 500hp at the motor:

comp XR281HR .571/.573 LIFT, 228/230 DURATION split, 112LSA

Heads: TFS GenX 205

Intake: FAST LSXR

TB: FAST 102mm

I am a newbie with engine stuff and I know it is gonna take some saving up, but worth it in the end. I know I will need a dyno tune and I am missing some things too. I know some people on here are a lot smarter than I!

thanks for ANY tips or advice.

For a 500 hp motor with an LS3 crate, you would only need a cam. You don't need to spend the money for heads, intake, ect if you only need 500hp.

500 in the 5.3 is gonna be tough with out forced induction.

As far as your head choice. I would Strongly suggest shopping around. For the Price of 1 bare casting TFS head you could get a set of assembled stage 2 CNC ported factory heads from a sponsor. Both WCCH and SDPC have there own variation of a CNC ported stage 2 heads starting at $899 with exchange.
You may want to purchase the upgraded springs with the lift range you want to run.

As far as your cam's you may also want to have something spec'd to your application.

The FAST intake and TB are most likely not worth the added cost and are not going to gain you much if anything in performance over something like a TBSS intake with 90mm TB especially on a 5.3L . They are really geared toward larger displacement motors that really need to breath. I would say realistically if it gained you any thing it might be like 15 Hp at the peak of the RPM range you might even loose down low.

Dig around in the engine section and see what you can find. Also feel free to ask up questions over there, There plenty of knowledgeable people with proven setups that can help you get the most out of your set up with out wasting money.

Good luck and keep us updated on your progress!!!

I am a newbie with the engine stuff! So, I might just go turbo/FI cam/TBSS intake/TB. Either way it will be a while before I save enough to do it. I was just shopping around!

No worries.

Just wanted to point out you didn't have to spend the extra money to accomplish the goal you were after. Forced induction would certainly help you get there.

Lurk around in the engine section for some Idea's and when your ready or have questions post up over there.

In the mean time you seem to be enjoying the exterior/interior side of the modding things

Looks Good!!!

It would help you achieve your goal of 500hp on the motor.

The factory engine is rated at around 300HP from the factory.

Most bolt on forced induction set ups ad roughly 100+ Hp as just a bolt on depending on which options you get. So adding a cam tailored to that package could bump it up another 50-80HP. A better flowing intake and TB will add to it as well.

It all depends on the package you put together as well as tunning.
