Them creases start at the top of my fenders, would flow nice back into the gloss on the truck..

again how are you going to cover the clear coat lines?

I did a single ghost stripe with a 1/4" outline using pearl..It doesnt really look like a stripe, and you can only see it in the sun..I cleared over both, then coler sanded/wet buffed..A charcoal pearl would look good on black..I am actually gonna switch up my paint a bit and tune up the HD hood...I felt like a hack after seeing your thread..lol..but at the time it was my daily driver and my beater blew up..

you have done it twice with good results. You my friend are very lucky. I have gotten lucky 3 times in over 40 attempts. I'm not a paint and body guy for a living but have a ton of time behind a paint gun and understand how it all works. To the OP regardless of what some will tell you... you are better staying away from painting chromed plastic.

I am no pro my self, but also have alot of time slinging paint and what not.. I have went over things that have been chromed before with out any issues as well, so I would feel comfy doing it.. As far as the line goes.. If I were to do the hood in a base clear, I do believe that if I were to clear it, then tape a line off, use a 4-5000 grit hard sponge, or paper on a orbital buffer that it would be 1 clear coat with 2 textures.. Just would have to be careful to make sure the line is exact and true.. Or spray the complete hood in the black base.. Tape off the center of the hood(satin part) clear the areas that are going to be gloss.. Once that dries, lay a tape line slightly on the out side of the gloss clear line, then tape off the gloss part around the edge of the hood, spray the center of the hood(satin part) with a satin clear. Once it has all dried, wet sand the edge where the two clear coats have over lapped, then buff.. Should make a nice line, be all one level, no lines.. Lots of time, but would prob work..

RIB, those ghost stripes actually look pretty good, I am not even a fan of the stripe thing.. it is just subtle enough to notice, but not over whelming... Very nice... And your hood looks pretty good man, I wouldn't call it a hack brotha...

I think color matched with rest of the body as it is... maybe do the grill in black too. Idk, I don't think you need to go trying to get the hood painted differently.

The only thing you can do tastefully is a stripe because the rest of the body doesnt have to be painted... but all those other lines that are drawn would then need to continue onto the body to make sense imo

The lines I have drawn are simply there to show the area that would be divided from the satin/gloss.. Not actual pinstripes..

So you saying satin in the area that I have marked off in post 20?? As far as inserts, you mean the grille, lower grille valence?

I've done it twice, one of my friends has done it twice, and 4 or more other friends have done it once, all with no issues. All the same painter painting them. Out of the 8+ grilles, I've prepped 4 or 5 of them.

Heres the front of my 01 3+ years after being painted. Couple bugs, no paint flaking

Yah not to start a war, but as long as the chrome is removed completely, the proper, cleaner promoter, paint is used I see no reason why it would not stick.. It is the same plastic as the textured black ones are.. Again not trying to start anything, app all the input for sure..
