Default Just Another Pickup Truck

***These first few posts will be from a local forum I already had them on, so I will let you know when the posts are up to date.***

Alright well I've been back and forth for a couple of months on what I wanted to get, and even though I wanted a vette I decided it might be better to wait on spending quite that much on a car right now so that I can help out with my upcoming wedding a little more. That being said, I still wanted to get something I could play with and fix up a little bit while I have it, and I decided I would start looking at trucks to mod. I thought the idea of building a quick truck would be fun, and the ability to haul some small stuff with it is something I've needed for a while as well. So I found this truck a couple months ago, and I decided to pull the trigger on it. I actually plan on keeping this one a while and "making it mine" so to speak.

It's a 2003 Silverado, 4.8 with 220k miles. It has a rebuilt 4l60 with corvette servos, and the motor seems to run pretty decent for what it is. Of course it's tired, but no mechanical problems that I've seen so far. It is stock with the exception of a flowmaster 10 series muffler.

The bad: It has many dings and scratches like a truck with 220k miles typically has. The previous owner smoked in it, although I've pretty much got that smell out. I may put new carpet and seats in it eventually, but that'll be down the road. It has some AWESOME blue calipers on front and back with a giant blue monster sticker on the back glass.

The good: It runs good with no problems so far. I actually really like the spiral gray color on it, and I might possibly respray it in the same color with the help of some local guys at some point in the semi-near future. Initially this was my first big thing on my list of things to do, but I ran across some good deals and dropped a good bit of money on some other goodies first.

Plans for the truck: 6.0/4l80e swap with a turbo setup to follow. I hope to have the motor/trans swap done within about 5-6 months. The turbo build will probably be several months after that, but I may wait and just do it all at once. It'll just depend on how patient I am. I also want to try my hand at painting it again since it just needs minor bodywork, and I think it would be a good first vehicle to do. I want to sell these wheels and tires and get a set of 20s with a 3/5 drop, so if anyone wants these wheels let me know.

Anyways, here's some pics from the day I picked it up.

Wednesday I stopped in and picked up these to go in the truck. I'll be getting a sub in a little while too, but these will work for now. [img][/img]

Also went yesterday and picked up a built 6.0 shortblock. The guy made me a GREAT deal on it, ARP head studs, new Ferrea valves, and some brand new Comp 918 beehives. He is also going to do a port job and machine some 317s where the motor will make a 9.5:1 compression ratio for the turbo build. We will be doing that in a couple weeks. Here's a picture of the motor Not exactly a good pic, but I already had it covered, and I didn't want to do all that again.

Here's a terrible phone pic I took of the bottom end last night.

If anybody has any of these style wheels I would be interested in setting up a trade. I like both of these.

Well this weekend I did some work on the truck. I didn't get nearly as far as I wanted to, but I ended up doing a lot more cleaning that I had planned. I pulled the front two calipers off to repaint black, but the rears will just have to wait for another time. I ended up cleaning up 10 years of grease and dirt off the suspension components and repainting the hubs also. The only bad thing is I forgot about painting the blue part of the rotor, but you cant really see it much on the truck I also took off the Monster and Spectre stickers. This job whooped me, lots of wire brushing by hand.

Well I've just been aquiring parts for this thing lately so that I can go ahead and get the motor put together. Here are a couple of things I have gotten since my last post.

Double roller timing set on the way.
[img][/img]
New Brian Tooley .660 lift Dual Valve Springs. I had ordered Patriots, but they went out of business and WS6store recommended these instead.
[img][/img]
Turbo hotside. I picked this up for $50 a while back. It'll be a while before I can use it, but it'll come in handy in a year or so.

I also picked up some injectors and ls6 throttle body from a local guy last week, so I'm well on my way to getting all that I need for this build. I still need some odds and ends and a couple more major parts including LS6 intake, ported LS6 oil pump, gaskets, electric fans, return style fuel rails, and some fbody accessory mounts if anybody has any. I dropped my heads off today at R&R for a good cleaning, 3 angle valve job, resurfacing, and installation of my new springs. After that they are going back to the guy I got the heads from for a good port job and the heads will be done. I would really like to get this motor swapped in over my Christmas break before I start my new job on the 7th. I will have a good 15-20 days there to work on it, but it's not looking like I'll have all the necessary parts. That's all I have for now. I'll update after I get my heads back next week hopefully.

This thread is up to date now. Still waiting on heads to be finished up.

You're correct, the bottom end pic is of the new 6.0. I'd be VERY surprised if the 4.8 bottom end was that nice haha.

I'd be surprised if the factory 4.8 bottom end had H-beam rods, LOL

Did some cleaning on the motor tonight. This motor was in a pro touring 69 Camaro for about 2000 miles before I got it, and the guy decided he wanted to go bigger. I just cleaned some surface rust off of it and the carbon off the pistons. I'll be cleaning the oil pan this weekend and getting it painted. Still waiting to get my heads back.
