I have don't anything to it besides new tires that aren't on in this pic.

It is very clean outside and the carpet needs shampooed.

Can you get some longtubes or Tri-Ys for it? The better scavenging could help your MPG. A custom burnt chip would help out too, but as said before, hard to find someone good at TBI tuning anymore.

Also as said before, the throttle body spacer with the little swirl grooves in it actually help on TBI vehicles. I also recall reading over on FSC that somebody put stainless screen under their throttle body spacer which supposedly helped to vaporize the fuel better, however it did slightly choke the top end power (then again how much top end does a stock TBI 454 have?)

I advanced the timing about 4 degrees past where it was. Seemed to really liven it up! Problem is I haven't had the chance to gage the aluminum wheels, plus I pulled the silencer "cone" from the silencer so it is just big open oval now. I haven't gotten a 3 inch tube but I can't figure it will help anything more to just clean up the engine bay a little bit.

I was really hoping to do a mod and get millage. Problem is the tiny bit I drive the truck and not being to spend $110+ to completely fill it up every time has stopped me from doing that. Not to mention the cold will throw my numbers off anyhow so I guess this spring we will just compare before and after.

I am posative I re-connected the by-pass wire but my tach is jumping around a little bit when it should be a steady cruizing rpm. Engine light is still on but I am figuring that should go off after a few times of starting. Anyone have an idea why the tach is jumping now?

I couldn't find a nice 454 4x4 Suburban around here. I found a nice half ton 4x4 that I am going to put a 454 in hopefully. One advantage will be having 3.42 gears to start with rather then the 3.73 or 4.11 that the 454 burb's came with.

Do you use that roof rack? If not, take it off.

Don't flip the air cleaner lid, it just allows hot underhood air to enter and makes more noise.

How warm is it where you are? Block part of the radiator to reduce the flow through there.

I don't use the roof rack and never thought about taking it off. I will consider that. The question is what is under neath it? Bolts that hold it on? Don't want to invite rust by taking it off.
Little bit of weight and the potential wind resistance should be good for a few 10ths of a mile per gallon at least.
I am taking the truck down south for a 770 mile highway trip. We will get solid highway millage to see how she does stretching her legs.

My body guy said that, that style roof rack is prone to stripping bolts if you try to take it off. He said he didn't want to take it off mine unless I wanted to leave it off. I will use mine, so it is staying. I will slide the cross bars all the way to the back though.

Being that its a Burb can you or have you taken out the 3rd row seats for extra weight reduction? I thought I remember you saying you had it BC of kids.... I broke my stock scissor jack and threw it away, now when I go on a road trip I haul my spare and a floor jack when i might need them other wise they stay in the shop.
