2018 LTZ Z71 Redline 6.2/8 speed

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.per...89028f3d9.jpeg
So far so good and I'm slowly saving to turbo it. Once the tracks open up, I'll get some stock passes then have New Era Performance put a tune on it.

Pros -
-Options - ltz plus package, sunroof, etc etc
-Comfort - any new vehicle rides so smooth and cruising around I cant hear the truck at all, its def something that jumped out to me.
-Looks - White Redline caught my eye and I had to get it.
-Crew cab - coming from a extended cab with three kids... the extra room is really nice.
-6.2 power

Cons -
-Kinda disappointed in the 36K mile/ 3 year warranty. I woulda thought the factory warranty would cover more miles.
-Key ( no push button start )
-The huge basket sized center counsel storage under the radio. what the hell? The arm rest has a similar storage. I wish they would have had a little better area layout.
-unable to put defrost, face and feet on at the same time. My 17 malibu could do this and its super nice.
-Screen not pointing to the driver. Its perfect for the kid in the middle seat in the back LOL.
-ECM and TCM - I'm reading that it takes more credits to tune it and I have to send the TCM to HP Tuners to unlock it. arg
-no rear hvac vents

My cons list is larger than pros but I really do love the truck and cant wait to see how it responds to a tune and eventually FI.

Awesome!

3 year 36k bumper to bumper or drivetrain?? I thought drivetrain was 5/60k on these.

FFDP 04-30-2018 10:59 AM

Yup, it's like 8 credits to fully tune a 2017+ truck. Pretty great when you already spend 40-50k on a new vehicle.

Atomic 04-30-2018 03:39 PM

Coming from a car that had like zero storage I love the basket size center console thing

The no pushbutton start might be my biggest irritation with mine. My 2012 hyundai had it and it was so nice not having to dedicate a hand to a key when you unlock the doors or mess with keys at all. Just hop in and go with the key in your pocket.

Im betting people will be picky about whos tuning their trucks now.

I 100% agree

Choda 05-04-2018 07:35 AM

AC doesn't blow cold and seems like there is some flaring in the up shifts. Just hit 600 miles and going to schedule an oil change to address these two issues. I want to cut open the oil filter just to see.

Ordering up a RX can. This video was pretty awesome.

thewrx 05-04-2018 08:39 AM

Does the redline package come with all the the interior features too?

What color white is that, the upgraded frosty/metallic/pearl one?

Same truck wife wants, but think she wants color match grill though.

Choda 05-04-2018 08:41 AM

I believe Redline is only exterior. Interior is where your LT, LTZ , HC package will come into play.

Summit White

I love the total paint scheme Chevy did with this. Love the white and black with red ascents.

Mconcha 05-05-2018 11:02 AM

What made you purchase the new truck, if you don’t mind me asking?

I sold my old truck that was an ecsb and had a 17 malibu to trade in and have gm employee discount and needed a crew cab. All the stars aligned and I bought it.

Choda 05-09-2018 12:38 PM

700 miles so far. Average of 18.7 mpg this tank with about 160 miles on it. No thruway.

Scheduled my first oil change. I want to cut the filter apart for inspection.
AC is not cold at all.
Trans flares between shifts when reg driving. Feels fine WOT. Not sure if this is supposed to drive like this or not.

Choda 05-10-2018 09:31 AM

Choda 05-10-2018 01:22 PM

Dealer called me back

Oil looks good and kept the filter for me
AC Condenser blew up and they are replacing it
Trans is acting normal. "It adapts to your driving over time" which i was thinking i did a dozen 1/4 passes, babied it for 400 miles to get a MPG idea, many burnouts.... good luck adapting to that LOL

dantheman1540 05-10-2018 01:37 PM

Man that thing is nice and quick!

Does GM have any idea why the condenser blew up?

Choda 05-10-2018 06:40 PM

No idea.

Snapped this before I dropped it off. If I get it back tomorrow, I’ll take it to the 1/4 this weekend and improve that stock time slip.

I’m an assistant parts manager at a Chevy dealer and the 14+ are notorious for condenser problems. Right now it’s kind of hard to condensers due to GM trying to get the problem sorted out and they keep releasing new part numbers

BudRacing 05-11-2018 01:51 PM

I didn't realize condensers were combustible.

Choda 05-12-2018 05:49 AM

First race Truck mod is a RX monster can. Install was pretty easy but the clean side separator is a bit tight when installed to the stock air lid box. I suggest not drilling the hole where I did. Install the barb on the top or on the bottom farther away from the TB than where there is a bit more meat. The paper towel was the oil I cleaned out of the intake. The truck has 900 miles.

I feel a viberation in the gas pedal anytime the rpm is around 1000. The dealer did scan the transmission but I don’t believe they changed any settings. Def rpm related.

Wired the flapper valve open this morning too. It has a little throaty sound at low rpm now.

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.per...a3e562345.jpeg

Atomic 05-12-2018 11:30 AM

Gotta give you credit for tearing into a brand new truck. Catch can is on my list for sure. Ive already put 7500 miles on mine since January and about to change the oil.

Choda 05-12-2018 05:56 PM

I’m doing the small stuff now. Once I get a dod delete and cam... then things will be a bit more serious.

I got the 2018 LTZ Z71 with the 6.2 also. Will be following you on the progress of your mods.

This pedal vibration is still there. I had the ol lady drive the truck and she noticed it too. 1000 - 1300 rpm in any gear. I'm going to unbolt my catch can from the brake booster stud and see if it goes away. I doubt it, but I need to check every box on my end first. I'll cut the flapper wire too. If the vibration is still there, back to the dealer.

The 1/4 track was closed due to weather. Maybe next week.

Been spending some crapper time looking at cam swaps. Is it 100% true that the front dif and steering needs to be lowered to lower the pan to cam swap these engines? I could swore I read some where that you could loosen the oil pump and move it outta the way a bit to do the swap = leaving the pan and other crap alone. Any good write ups?

Choda 06-04-2018 08:00 PM

Catch can caught about a spoon full of oil for a 1,000 miles of driving.

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.per...a2b812895.jpeg

cheyenne383 06-05-2018 12:03 AM

My 17 5.3/6 spd/3.08 with 6500 miles has the pedal vibration... drives me crazy. Typically 1200-1300 rpm under load regardless of trans gear... It pulses and it very noticeable. Almost feels like an engine mount or something.

Nice new truck!! I've managed to leave mine alone after debadge/tint/wheels/tires/DL3 mirrors... oh wait... yeah... I haven't left it alone. The drivetrain mods will wait until after 5 years/60k, gotta get my money's worth out of the warranty.

Choda 06-05-2018 02:02 PM

i think mine might be from the catch can. its bolted to the booster bracket.

Kinda let down, that was all the oil in there. I guess its good because theres not a lot, but i thought itd have more in the can. Ill check again at oil change which is about 4K more miles. At that time, ill pull the Throttle body off again and see if theres oil in there. I cleaned it out when i installed the can.

Choda 06-07-2018 12:01 PM

So I gave into peer pressure and went back to the track to better my single pass of 9.3.

In 5 passes I think I have the secrets sauce this truck likes. Dropped 3 tenths and gained 2 mph. Same track and similar weather.

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.per...b519edff4.jpeg

Now I’m being asked why I didn’t get that 1.99 60’ and 8.99 et. Lmao

I was going to ask why your RT was so slow. :D

BudRacing 06-08-2018 10:24 AM

What's in the sauce?

Choda 06-08-2018 12:33 PM

stabilitrak turned off
2K rpm
4x4
shift from 4x4 to 2 before the 1-2 shift

That resulted in the best ET and Trap for me. I did not test IDLE to WOT or AUTO, maybe next time.

Atomic 06-08-2018 01:15 PM

Most interesting part of that to me is the trap speed, gaining 2mph on the same day is significant.

How long did it take to get your catch can? I ordered mine like 3 weeks ago...

Were you unable to hook at 2k in 2wd off the line?

Vortec350ss 06-11-2018 05:05 PM

Sucks a cam swap is so much more involved in these newer trucks...

2 mph increase was the first pass 2 weeks before this day of racing. Different days and testing. That day it was staying at 75/76 mph.

I believe it was like 2/3 weeks.

I did not try, but i would guess unless its a very prepped track, 2WD would spin.

Yeah, seems I have to drop the front dif and steering rack. A local guy put a cam in his 5.3 and has the knowledge and tools. I'm saving for a cam/drive train kit now. Probably the same cam the turbo Dubai guys are ordering from BTR. Mild cam with fuel lobe

06 4.8 06-12-2018 06:33 PM

Gonna do headers and the other bolt ons before the cam?

Choda 06-13-2018 07:14 AM

No, not going to spend 1200 on headers to use them for 1 year and have to re sell when I go turbo again. I'm leaving the stock exhaust until I turbo.

kuntryquest 06-29-2018 07:36 PM

You know I have a lift right? I'll gladly help with the install

Vortec350ss 07-03-2018 10:01 AM

You're echoing what I would love to do with mine. I will probably pull the trigger on a GMPP 3.5" exhaust for mine as well.
