Engine is going together. Dad dropped off the main studs, windage tray, oil pump, oil pan, and balancer off today for them to install. Bottom end should be about wrapped up.
Got the plugs pulled. They’ve got maybe a 1000 miles on them. #8 was the nastiest by far. The rest look fine. Gonna try and get a compression tester this week.
Check the rear oil drain back on bank #2 head. The oil drain backs on SBC's are small and they'll get blowby scales building up restricting the oil drain back. The oil puddles first at the rear # 7 & # 8 cylinders then works forward as the drain holes become more restrictive. The valve seals can't control the oil when they're submerged. Juuge a coat hanger wire down the rear drains to see if they're clear. A tell tell sign is when you pull the covers... it will puke oil out at the rear.
Its going for at least one more trip to see how it does with the gears and lockers I installed in January and then it’s coming off the road for a while. Buddy of mine is giving me a 4l80e core. Come next month I’ll order the top end and FI kit. September I should be able to have the 80 gone through. Planning on starting the swap in October//November. Hopefully back up and running by January 2022. Dialed in around February. And by March it should be burning tires and ready to crawl again. I’m getting excited.
Buddy of mine at the office gave me a core transmission today. I believe it’s a 2wd so I’ll need to get the shaft and tail housing but it needs a rebuild anyways so meh. Only cost me a bottle of bourbon.
Turns out this trans came out of a 4wd so should be all good to go there. Just need to save up for a rebuild and converter for it and a new input for the NP208.
