Default F250 6.2l Gasser Guzzler?

New 2014 got me only 9.3mpg over 1200m recent trip. Was towing 2200lbs snowmobiles trailer, 3.73 gears, temps outside were between 0 and -35, clear roads, but through Adirondacks, near 150 of the miles were in 4x4.
I was with an F150 that got 17mpg!
Should I be shocked? I've heard this thing drank gas, but man this is pretty poor.

The 6.2 in my old company truck (F350 ECLB SRW 2wd) weighed in at 10,000lbs plus every day it was on the road, I averaged 12-13mpg with a lot of it being time spent down terrible lease roads, stop/go and tons of idle time...

Was the trailer open or an enclosed one?

If it's in 4WD hi that's answer to your fuel mileage or at least partly.

just did 2nd 1200mile round trip...10mpg avg, same enclosed snowmobile trailer (~2000lbs), whole drive was in snow and 4x4 basically, so speeds were slower. Truck was amazing in snow, would just be nice to get into the teens on mileage...

That is avg for an enclosed trailer. Weight has little to do with it. The drag from the frontal area of the trailer is the issue.

Bolt ons and tune is about all that will help it, but you have to look at whether the investment is worth the fuel savings. My trucks gets a little worse gas millage in 30* bellow weather, might be due to I let it warm up longer. I wonder if I would hit 11mpg in some nice 50-70* weather maybe 12 with no wind.
