Nothing hurt but his feelings! It was accutally kinda sad being a daily and he has a child due in a week or so. But thats the price you pay for hot rodding!

So he turn the car off in the staging lane then opened the valve then started the engine? Thats not the right way to do it still, clearly

Well ok what is the right way Mr. Big Shot? It really doesn't matter the faulty nitrous solonoid emptied the whole friggin bottle into the engine!

Would've pegged the rev limiter and trashed the engine due to lean condition right? Sucks *** for sure poor guy. Btw how's your truck running Softail? Should be having some fun with it I bet!

Lol I'm not an expert, but general rules are don't open the bottle unless the engine is running, and close it as soon as you are done running. If it had been on when he opened the bottle he would've heard it rev and be able to turn the bottle off before it blew up, most likely.

Nitrous is not flammable. Ive never tried it, but i would think If he dumped a 10lb bottle of nitrous alone into the intake, it would be so lean it would cause a no start....but if nitrous and fuel was dumped in the correct ratios....BOOM

I lean towards user error myself. Possible armed the system with his car off and practiced hus foot brake launch technique in the staging lanes....just a guess.

Solenoids typically dont leak when they wear out. They get a nipple on the plunger and seal shut tighter than they should. A relay failure is more likely than a solenoid failing and letting nitrous past imho.

Ouch that sucks.
Nitrous back fires are caused by many things. But there is always fuel in an intake.
The gasoline or even the oily crap in the bottom of the intake.
The actual boom starts of the ignition + NO velocity air flow in the intake.
Fuel + nitrous on cranking = boom.
Nitrous injected volume greater then air flow velocity = boom

I delt with this for well over a decade while at nx.
