Default Nitrous Explosion!

This is One reason I hate this stuff! I was at the track when it happened so this is the story. A stuck open solenoid emptied a full bottle in the staging lane and once he turned the key on this is whats left. First it sounded like a ****** CANNON, the firewall was pushed back 4" and peeled up at the cowl, the throttle, brake, clutch pedals were blown off of the firewall onto his feet, the hood flew at least 100ft in the air, the battery was 50ft away, and they found parts of the intake at half track and two cracked pistons and blew out both head gaskets. And amazingly no one was hurt that was standing around the car when it let go. But the guy that was in the Challenger next to him pissed all over himself. All of this and a daily driver.

This is why you always, always turn the bottle off after a run and purge the line on the return road.

Could he have turned the bottle off and prevented this?

do you not put gas in your car because more cars burn to the ground every year in comparison to nitrous backfires?

True but at the race track nitrous explosions happen more per weekend than cars burning to the ground from gas fires.

The bottle was off the whole time in the pit and he opened it on the way to the staging lanes.

I could argue that there would be absolutely zero chance of a nitrous backfire if there was no gas in the car In conclusion, gas causes fires and backfires
