Default nitrous and boost

I'm thinking about buying a zex wet kit (55-125) and running it with 5# of boost. So how big of a shoot should I be able to run safely? (on a stock 6.0) Also I would like to know a lot about nitrous as far as what case nitrous backfires ect. and what I can do or buy to prevent it.

It's my DD so I can't afford to blow it.

Some years ago, I remember a guy using nitrous with 6psi boost in a smaller engine. He used no more than 75hp and eventually that did blow his engine. Yours will probably put up with 75 and 5psi, but the best way to tell is going in increments as you feel it's safe. Another thought would be to use the nitrous as a cooling agent over an intercooler.

As for info about nitrous and why some engines fail while using it, you can get tons of info on what not to do directly from the different nitrous system makers and perhaps more pertinent info to you by visiting the dragstrip and asking those who use it.

I'll add, there definitely are preventative parts to help engines survive with nitrous onboard, but even those can fail. I know because I had a sudden nitrous backfire when I started my car one day. It seems I left the bottle on and my solenoid leaked, easily loading the intake with nitrous. When I added fuel and spark, ka-blooooooey. Bent the throttle body's butterfly in half instantly, and left me stranded for about 30 minutes!

i know some guys on here (myself included) run nitrous with the whipple. mine is a stock 5.3 longblock and i've ran 9psi and a 50 shot several times. parish8's old truck ran 8-9psi and 100 shot on a stock 6.0 but i wouldn't push it that hard unless to tune is dead on. also, i've never been a fan of zex kits, my vote goes to the nx wet kit. about the backfire, just don't spray under 3000rpm and you'll be fine.

I sprayed a 50 shot for a little "out of the hole" boost on my turbo'd TA.. I ended up melting #7.. Just make sure you take away some timing when doing it..

Well, my personal opinion is that if you CANT afford to blow it, then dont do it!!

Even if you dont accidently mess up, solienoids do stick, and stuff like that happens occasionally.....

I would just wait until you can afford it.... Then go for it!!!!

Also.... Its a basic rule, to take away 2* of timing for every 50 HP!!!
