thanks for the welcome everyone. ill get some pics of the yellow beast up before too long lol.. needs some body work and some paint and it will look new again.. but i have probably a pretty dumb question but i gotta ask.. carfax says it has the 4.8 in it, the sticker says it has the 4.8, but my step bro said everywhere he took it to get the oil changed they said it was the 5.3. now i know the block, heads, and all that are the same, and only changes are the crank, rods, and pistons, but now how can i tell if it is a 5.3 or a 4.8?? im hoping its the 5.3 but i doubt it is.

 

maybe it was wrecked before and the platic radiator support cover or air filter box came off a junkyard 5.3. The engine size is on a lable there. That is where oil change places usually look for the info.

About the only way is pulling a plug and looking into the cyl with a boroscope. 4.8's are flat top pistons and 5.3's are dish. Other than that I don't know any other way to tell from the outside. Is it a 5 speed? you can only get a 5 speed with a 4.3 or 4.8.

 

nah its a a4.. well.. im pretty sure its a 4.8.. but who knows maybe someone put a 5.3 in it.. i dont see why they would have told him its a 5.3 tho.. or how they'd know

 

well i have another question.. you guys think that i should try and get a lq4, and make it into a 408, or take my block i have, put a rotating ls1/ls6 assembly in it with a 4'' crank and make it a 383?? or do something else? if it was the 5.3 id go ahead and start modding it but i think i wanna save my money and do everything i want the first time instead of spending alot of money now, and then doin something completely diff later and it just be a waste.

my original plan was a 408.. i just got to thinkin.. i already have the block and everything for the 383.. so it was just a option.. yeah being in school and workin 30 hrs a week on top of that is starting to get to me.. but hey im not quiting my job.. make about 900$ every two weeks before taxes and im still in highschool so i think im doin pretty good
