Turbo Canyon from Cali
#1
Hey, kinda been lurking a bit and finally decided to log in an make it official.
My name's Matt and my money pit is a 2005 GMC Canyon that's been turbo charged. We melted a couple pistons back in May at Truckin' Throwdown so I've been hard at work with Motor Machine Super Shop in Carmichael, CA to get forged rods and pistons in the block and get it back on the road.
Anyway, that's enough from me.

Thanks everyone. I'll have more pics for you later. The rebuild has been kind of a nightmare but it should be capable of supporting close to 800hp when finished.
The red one you're thinking of is Cory and he helped with my original tune a bit. He's been an invaluable source of information.
Oh, and the wheels in the rendering are Bonspeed Malibu 6's. Someday... lol

Haha, OK.
Turbo is a GT35 remote mount spec'd by STS Turbo. I have the exact spec's on a sheet somewhere, but can't find it at the moment.
Fuel system is mostly stock, but a set of Seimens 60# injectors replace the factory pieces.
Intercooler is a Treadstone TRV1259 a2a
That's the basics on the first build and it was fun and a LONG road getting there. Made 280rwhp on 5.5psi. A baby compared to most here.
Since we popped the motor at Throwdown, we decided instead of giving up or swapping, we'd push the Atlas motor as far as it would go and are building it to support a **** ton more power than we intend to ever make.
Pistons are custom pieces from JE and have a slight dish to lower the compression to 9.3:1. They are also coated on the crown and skirt. The rods are forged by R&R connecting rods. All these parts I believe are the very first set of true 'bolt-on' internals for the Atlas 3.5L motor. I'm currently waiting on new bearings to finish out the motor build as well as a full set of ARP head bolts. I think the motor should be on the bench by Wednesday this week. We're also doing some work to the head to help get the heat out of the dam thing. Survival is the name of the game.
For the turbo, we're adding a crap load of parts to make it safer and also allow us to crank it up when the opportunity presents itself. We have a new .68 A/R housing for the hot side to help relieve some of the back pressure and I'm taking more precise control thanks to a Turbosmart eBoost2 electronic boost controller. I'm using it to trigger a meth injection kit (still need to get a bottle...) and add that much more headroom. I'm also going to rework some of the charge piping to make it easier to work with and also make it prettier.
The fuel system is getting a larger pump and I have a set of 80# injectors sitting on a shelf for when I need to finally scratch that itch. We're tuned for 91oc but should we start to creep towards 600hp, we're switching to E85.
The trans is a stock 4l60 with vette servos. Rear end is a stock piece from an '07 Colorado with a G80 locker. When those bite the dust, I'll have something stronger built. Still undecided as to what though.
Um, I think that's everything... I'm sure I'm forgetting something though.
Oh, truck has a big stereo, QA1 coilovers up front, and some cool billet parts that are one-off from Sinisty Kustomz. And I drive it every day (when the dam thing isn't broken!)

I've since redone the exhaust side of the turbo and it has a large support bracket and flex pip between the #1 and #2 cats. We also added a muffler because I often work until 2am and my neighbors love me for it.
Oh, and they mentioned it in the magazine, and it's true; I'm just a cook for In-N-Out Burger. Not wealthy by any means and often too stupid to understand the finer points of tuning and engineering, so I will often leave that to the pros that know what they are doing. I'm learning though. Everyday.
