Default Newbie looking for advice

whats up fellas? you got a newbie here who found this forum under distress, as i am sure many of you have. i'll give everyone some background on my story so if you like long winded questions or just have some time to burn keep readin, otherwise jump to bottom of my book. so here we go, i am a recovering fordaholic who has built many 65-66 stangs then jumped into the fox chassis stangs for a while then onto the bmws and other foreign stuff. then came the tickets and the end of sport cars/muscle car. insurance payments went higher then car payments. so then what was left, yeah, a truck. so i went with an 03 gmc scsb and the wimpy 4.8 then like many of you i did all the bolt on stuff appearance and motor wise. just about the time i was somewhat happy with it (is anyone ever totally happy?) i developed a lifter knock and three days later no knock, check engine light going bezerk, down on power, rough idle. my best guess - lifter implode, cam damage?, valve damage? yada yada yada. so this brings us to the present pending question on which i know there is no right answer, what to do? i dont have an unlimited budget (unemployed contractor) but would truely like to have a serious street machine that would anger all those m3 owners, keep all the fwd cars at bay, stress out the vette guys, and put a smile on my face! so i'm looking for the best bang for my buck, that could be daily driver, pull a good 12sec 1/4mi, then be able to make the right turn at speed and hit the apex and see ya later! yeah i know tall order. but can't i dream? so lets hear it guys, benchtop racing at its best. thanks in advance!

Welcome. My TVS helps in the handling dept.-I know that for sure. Haven't gone the 12sec. route...yet. Still in planning stage & saving stage. Currently being disrupted by the broke stage. Midway betw. the 2 was the spending stage.

welcome. it does sound like maybe bad misfiring or u may have screwed the pooch and lost some internals. Best bet is find a 4.8 or 5.3 or 6.0 (pick ur poison) and then big cam, good tune, or just FI and u should be real decent. Kbracing96 has an ECSB turbo 4.8 running VERY impressive times. Give him a shout if ur interested in a turbo
