Default new to the truck world...HELP!

hello all. i have been an LS1tech member for a few years and have already built a Trans Am and i'm thinking of doing a truck now. i found an '05 5.3L with DoD for a good price and i'm thinking of picking it up. the original idea was to carb it and put it in my '66 Impala, but i'm wondering if i could keep the EFI and DoD by putting it into a 2000-ish S10 with A4. so if i yanked the motor out of an S10, unless i'm wrong, the tranny should bolt right up to the motor, but would the DoD be compatible even with the older 4L60? and i'm unsure if this motor has VVT or not, as i don't even know how to tell. i'd really like to keep that if i can. anyways, any help you could give me to help me understand just how these new truck motors work would be appreciated. thanks.

not very many swap guys here, but i know if it were me id ditch any dod or vvt bs and just run it, that thing would get pretty damn good mileage anyways, and i think ive read somewhere before that the tranny wont bolt up for some reason
