Default new guy with broken 2000 Z71

hi, new guy here from lake tahoe ca. been a chevy guy since 1969. one exception 72 cj5.
i have a 2000 z71. just had transmission replaced...$3000
check engine light has been on and the tranny guy said the code was for the encoder motor. $350 more. I couldnt afford it last month.
this morning It would not start. all lights come on all electrical systems work but no crank at all.
where should i go on this forum to get find out if this could be caused by failure of encoder motor? stranded in placerville ca.
great website by the way.

I'd check your battery connections.

If you go to turn the key to "start" and everything just zonks out and nothing happens it's likely an issue with the battery or cables. Like a grounding problem.

Could also be the starter if the battery connetions check out, smack it with a hammer a few times while trying to crank it over and see if comes back alive.

Welcome, definitely not the encoder that only controls 4x4, could be the prndl tho, try shifting thru the gears and trying to start on every gear
