Cool My First Silverado

Im the "new" new guy. Recently bought my first "bran-spankin" truck. My dream has finally come true. 2009 Silverado Z71. I know this thing has a lot of potential, to say the least. I'm a novice and I don't know where to begin. I want to do some mods but not sure where to start. Cost, as always, is an issue and I don't want to void my warranty. So, help me out, where do I start. I want to get better MPG's (14-16) currently, more zoom when I push the pedal down, more torque, etc. This is a STOCK '09 Z71 5.3L ECSB Silver Burch Metallic. It is sweet! It's hard to imagine how it could be better, but I know it can be. Any suggestions?

Intake, headers, performance muffler, and tune will get you started for under a $1000, without having to open up the engine.

Thanks for the kindness. I'm just gonna look around and see whats on here and do a lil research. Trying to answer my questions myself...lol. Keep in mind this is a whole new venture fo me, I can keep up and figure stuff out, but some of these acronyms (numbers & letters) are confusing as hell. I got an in general idea, but specifics...fuhgedaboudit!* Here's a couple of easy questions I need help with.....how do I find which motor I have (I know its a 5.3L)? But what else do I need to know and how do I find this info? What transmission is in it? What gears? See, this is easy stuff for a lot of you guys and gals, but when I say I'm new, I mean it.
Help a guy out.

In the glove box you will find a series of letters and numbers. Those are codes for what your truck was build with.Like a 5.3 liter 323cu in is LM7,Trans 4speed 4L60e is M30,Rear Axle Ratio 3.73 is GT4 and Locking Diff is G80 . These are numbers off of my Truck, just to show you what to look for.Hope this helps you.
