Default Introduction

So, I've picked up a big white suburban - '02 1500 2wd.

It won't be my daily driver. Rather, I'll use it for family get-aways (lots of room) and as a tower. The towee is a jeep wrangler (~3500 lbs) I like to drag around - flat towed.

I don't want a race car, but I like to tinker and the engine is sitting on 140k. So I'm thinking:

1) new engine - 6.0L maybe, something with lots of low/mid torque
2) gears - low but not crazy low, 4.10 maybe, or 4.27
3) brakes - cause safety matters
4) upgrades as necessary to drive line componenets

I like to do lots of research before starting these projects. Kind of know where I'm going so I don't make random mods that have to be remodded later (I've never done THAT before). I'm tempted to go straight for new gears, but is my axle a weak link and I'd have to re-re-gear later. You get the idea.

I'm hoping you guys can point me to the right places to get started gathering information. Thanks for having this site.
