Default First timer looking for info.

OK guys I'm new at this so be patient with me . I have a 2005 cast iron 5.3 I'm building for my 2003 z71. I've the 2005 motor torn down for complete overhaul and found that the rod pins have keepers on both sides to hold them. The rods also have a bushing in the pin end. I have 4.8 flat tops wit new pins to put back in but don't look like they are going to work. I've watched many vids to see how everything goes back together (dozens) but none of Wich show anything about these pin bushings. I'm kinda lost on this one on what I need to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The 05 engine has the newer style rods known as the Gen 4 style rods. These have a floating pin with a bushing in the pin bore of the road and retaining clips in the end of the Pin bores on the piston.

These differ from the pressed pin style you are referring too as those pistons do not have grooves for the retaining rings that hold the pin.

You can either source some Gen3 style rods or find some replacement pistons.

If you have the complete 05 motor torn down, why not keep the piston and rods that are in there? The gen4 rods are more desirable than the gen3 (stronger). While you are in there, may as well get a have decent set of forged pistons since that will be the weakest link in there should you decide you want more power.
