Correct the zr2 axles are wider than 4x4 axles. So they're a perfect addition for someone using vette wheels. Won't have to use spacers to help clear them. All zr2 axles have 3.73 gears as well. Hope its useful info!

Zero mods to fit. Only difference is the overall width. If you use the same wheel backspacing from a 2wd then it'll stick out of the wheel well. Best option would be to get wheels with 2 inches more backspacing than 2wd to fit correctly

1996 to 2002 S-10's had a 7.625 rear. I a 1996 & 2001 with the 4.3 both had it.
the only rear that was diff was the 4cyl 5spd. I was told it had a 12 bolt
with 4:10 w/G80 all the early trucks (old body style) had the 7.5 rear not 8.5.

Never heard of or seen a 4 cylinder truck with a factory 12 bolt.

No. You'll never see an s10 with a factory 12 bolt, and as discussed earlier in this thread there are plenty of 8.5" rears in them, but most had the smaller rears.

The things he listed were RPO OPTIONS. It doesn't even mean they built them. I have been into S10's sine 1984. I make a living reselling used parts. I have seen 6 8.5's from a 2wd S10. They really didn't make that many. It's much easier to put an Exploder 8.8 rear end in, and save yourself that hassle and hope that your going to find one.

BTW, isn't it funny, they don't have a separate RPO code for the 8.5" rear vs the 7.5"?
