Default New Tires

Got Hankook's installed today. Found I had got all I was going to get out of the Toyo's. Two chunks out of the drivers front, cords showing on Pass. Front, and the rears were nothing more than slicks.

Anyway, impressions so far:

-Just as quiet as the Toyo's were
-Handle just as good so far
-Like the tread pattern
-They don't hook any better at 40 mph (Read *** end wags all over the place. Under 30, forget it, you have a smoke show on your hands, lol.)
-Ride is as follows:

--- 45psi - Pretty stiff. I about shat myself when the guy told me that's what he put in them.

--- 40psi - Not bad. A little rougher than I like tho, and they're still retaining a decent amount of heat.

--- 35psi - I think this could be the sweet spot. Response still seems quick, doesn't feel like there's any slop in the sidewall. Heat retention is minimal on the fronts, and the rears are throttle dependant. Hooks pretty well now. Still useless on a 1st gear kickdown, but from a stop they're actually halfway decent. Took her through my test section of road yesterday as well. Not so much as a sqeal from the tires.

I know these aren't the softest compound tires out there, but for a DD, I'm not looking for the softest tire either. The longer it'll last, the better.

I got a set of Hankooks over the weekend and I don't like them as well as the soft compound G/Y or Nitto's but I hope they last longer than the stock tires.

Hankooks are a good tire and should last a while.

Unfortuneatly, it seems, the only way for serious traction after a 4#/6# pulley is Nitto 555R's. I went through the following before I came to this conclusion.

After I went through my first set of Goodyears I put on the 555R's. After the second set of nittos 555R's I put on 555's all around. I was thouroughly pissed. At this point I had upgraded to a 4# pulley. Even when rolling into the throttle, the tires would break loose at the top of first during many wot runs. I'm currently on my third set of 555R's and was contemplating putting 555's back on the rear, but now I'm using a 6# lower and there is no way I'd be happy running anything other than a soft compound tire. Once you get a taste of what a drag radial can do there is no going back. I will be the first to admit it isn't cheap and if you want to play you have to pay. In the short time I ran 555's the Lighning was not fun to drive.
